The City Center property has not yet been reported to the board or identified, but the South property matches previous reports for the Hotetur Beach Paradise so that would be my best guess for that one.

These matched the 4* Hilton

However, I got the Gran Melia.

I wanted 2 rooms in the same hotel and had a good rate booked at the Hilton at $99; however, the Hilton would not give me another room at that rate. Also, I have gold status with hilton and wanted the perks by going in directly for that room.

Anyway, when I went back to pickup a second room from hotwire the same room was not available. and just give up the Hilton room. The same icons were not there but these showed up for a 4 * cancun south.

Sorry to hear this purchase didn't go "right" for you. Can you please confirm the dates of your stay (posted as 2/9/10-1/14/10... i assume this should be Feb 9-14??) and i'll take a closer look as to the current situation and some possible gameplans going forward.

Also, to make sure i understand the situation... you had one room booked at Hilton direct, were trying to get a second room at this property thru HOTWIRE but ended up with the Gran Melia. You have since cancelled the original hotel direct room at the Hilton and are hoping for another room at the Gran Melia. Do i have that right?

Yes the dates should have been 2/9/10-2/14/10. I saw that typo and one other. The matching data from pinned should have read, "

You have it partially correct. I wanted 2 rooms at the same hotel. I booked one directly with Hilton as a backup. Some other friends decided to come down that week. I tried to get an additional room at the discounted rate and Hilton didn't have it. The hotwire offered what appearee to be the hilton; however, it generated the Gran Melia (GM). The icons are not similar to others posted in the forum for the GM. Very strange.

I went to get the second room at the GM thinking I could just release the Hilton room; however, those icons no longer appears. Maybe it was the last room at that rate? Therefor, I kept the Hilton on a direct (cancel 24 hours) reservation.

I can live with the current situation, but it is not optimal. The hotels are about a mile from each other and I wanted to stay as a group; however, it could work in our favor in that we could probably bounce back and forth between the properties optomizing the events/amenities. Even when things don't work the way you want, sometimes it's for the better. :)

If I try to get a second room via Hotwire, it could make things worse. The other option would be a direct booking through GM, but that is significantly more than the Hilton which will likely give me a Gold upgrade.

A current HOTWIRE search for your dates currently shows the same amenities of the hotel you purchased above (rate i'm showing is $79... yours may differ slightly). At the moment i think HOTWIRE has 85% customer favored reviews for the Gran Melia and 75% for the Hilton (with the GM showing mostly 4.5 ratings for most categories vs. the Hiltons 4.0 rating across all categories)... so this might be one way to tell them apart.

IF (<-- a BIG 'if') there are the only two properties, seems like if you take a chance on HOTWIRE and in the coming days/week purchase what you believe to be the Gran Melia via HOTWIRE, it will give you the same hotel as the one you have already purchased for the other couple (via HOTWIRE). If you guess wrong and get the Hilton again, it would simply give you the same property you already have but at a cheaper rate... a win/win unless you feel you'll miss out on stay credit or any potential upgrades since you then wouldn't have booked direct.

The bed choice Icon is new on the current 4* south. I'm a little worried that this property is not the Hilton OR the Gran melia.

The Bed Choice property looks to be be a new hotel... not the Hilton or the Gran Melia.

Are you open to other properties, or is your objective either another room at the Gran Melia or a cheaper price for the Hilton?
