vacationing Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Betterbidding,Could the problem be that we are just planning too far in advance and hotels aren't quite as open to giving out great deals? I too will be staying in the DC area in early May (4th - 7th) and have been unsuccessfull at landing a 4-star hotel in the general dowtown area. It's great to see that some "posters" were successful at landing 4-star hotels for $60 - $80 per night while bidding only a few days before their trips. I've been bidding on Priceline.com for several days and am now up to $100/night for a 4-star hotel. Do you suggest we wait until April for a better deal? Thanks,OCD Planner :>)
thereuare Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! When you say the "general downtown area" are you only bidding the White House-Downtown zone or including others? Exactly which zone(s) did you bid up to $100 for a 4* hotel? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. vacationing Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 I've tried Convention Ctr - Capitol Hill area and White House - Downtown. By chance, would BB keep stats of exactly when customers get a "hit" on their bids? It may just be that I'm simply planning too far out in advance. I'll be sure to use the PRICELINE link.
thereuare Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Rates are date specific... have you checked hotel direct rates for 4* hotels in these zones for dates? I checked rates at 3-4 hotels and all are near or over $400/nite for your dates, so your current bidding is only about 25% of conventional rates. Are the Convention Center-Capitol Hill and White House-Downtown the only two zones you're willing to accept? Would the Dupont Circle zone work for your needs... rates there might be cheaper, although at the moment it looks as if you'll still need to surpass $100 to have success for a 4* hotel. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Doubleplay Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 I'm a meeting planner based in DC and I'm having a hard time finding any rooms at a decent price the end of April and beginning of May. There must be a citywide convention in town. You might want to look at Crystal City, Alexandria or Arlington, VA.
