My brother with his wife and two kids will be visiting New York, staying three nights from February 24. to 27. The boys are one and a half and five years old. They have never visited New York before, and as I have had great luck with Hotwire many times before, I offered to help them.

However, I am now not sure if Hotwire is the best option, or if there is better offers out there. I am looking for a central comfortable place near attractions, for under 200 dollars a night including taxes. The ideal would of course be a small suite, but I don't know how realistic that is. Do you know of any apartment short term rental options?

I saw a different post suggested Salisbury Hotel for a family of five, but it seems that hotel is full.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Salisbury has 1BR suites that are (often, not always) a more affordable option, and while it's a basic property, it is well-located.

HOTWIRE would be a good option in this case, as PRICELINE does not guarantee 2 beds (and that could not be more true in NYC, where rooms are often small), but there are other options, as well.

Let me do a little browsing and will be back momentarily with a list of some options.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and your searches.

Suggestions:

1. Holiday Inn Express NYC 5th Ave; $120 non-refundable via Orbitz.com (plus coupon code WELCOME10 takes another 10% off = $108.) Not upscale, but great location, free breakfast and very good reviews. Given the total after tax of $383 and change (and the added value of breakfast), plenty under their budget.

2. Belvedere (Executive 2 doubles room; basic option would be less expensive) is $138 + $20 extra person fee = $158 per night via Expedia. Coupon code 10NOV takes $10 off = $148 per night. This would be for an executive 2 doubles room, which also includes kitchenette.

3. Beekman Tower (One Bedroom Suite) - larger 1BR suite w/kitchenette. Well-reviewed MTE property; not as centrally located in MTE, but nice area. On sale via Expedia for 35% off - $161.85 + $10 off using 10NOV.

4. HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in Chelsea w/Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business for $99, which would be a possible match for the Doubletree Chelsea. HOTWIRE also has a 3.5* in MTE (same amenities) that may be the Roosevelt, Tudor or Doubletree Met.

5. Just above the max, HOTWIRE has a 4* in Times Square for $169 (w/tax/fees, it would be just over the max) with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business - which is a possible match for the Crowne Plaza, which has been reported with that amenity set.

Please use the site's Orbitz, Expedia or HOTWIRE links.

I'd be interested in these for my dates of May 22-25 that I posted in another thread. I can't seem to get the Holiday Inn though via Orbitz or the salisbury option. help?

I don't see the Salisbury hotel mentioned above thru Orbitz nor do i see it when searching for your dates... although Expedia has a room at the Salisbury which can accomodate quad occupancy for $319/nite for your dates. Orbitz has a quad occupancy room at the Holiday Inn Express Fifth Ave for $288/nite.

My brothers family ended up booking through Hotwire, staying February 25th - 28th. I told them to book through this site, of course.

they have a great deal on a 4 star hotel in Times square area where "suite" was one of the amenities listed. They paid $ 159 plus taxes a night. It turned out to be Doubletree guest suites Times square, an excellent choice for a family as they will get a two room suite. Doubletree suites has great reviews on Tripadvisor.

Booked:

Amenities: 4* Suite, Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Hi Speed internet

2 adults, 2 children.

Thank you all for your help!

Congratulations on their success!

Thank you for passing the win along and asking them to book thru the HOTWIRE link here on the board.

Hope they have a great stay!

PS- a good, relatively inexpensive (for NYC) place for dinner with kids is John's Pizza, on 44th St b/w 7th and 8th Ave. (it's a restaurant... not a slice place) Very good pizza (and petes-a-rolls are good too... but i'd stay away from entrees and such) in a nice atmosphere since it's a converted church... tall ceilings and NY-esque murals on the wall.
