Priceline Hotel: 3* NYC (MSG-Convention) New Yorker

I've been following this board for a while, and am hoping for some input regarding my upcoming NYC holiday around Easter.

Is Easter generally a high-season in NYC?

The flight tickets from Europe seem to have gone up by 20% compared to the last two years when I travelled in August/September.

I'm looking for a 3,5-4* property MTE, CPS, Times Sq., I somehow prefer MTE to MTW and dont mind the distance to e.g. UN Millenium Plaza.

I'm hoping to find something at no more than 120$/night + fees.

I've been using Hotwire before with the help of the hotel list at BB, but am new to Priceline bidding, so any help is appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Unfortunately, I think a 4* may not be realistic at these levels, but a 3.5* is possible. Do you have any interest in the Empire State Building or MSG-Convention areas?

These dates do not appear super high for NYC, but they do look mildly higher than other days during this general time period.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.

Thanks for the welcome, I'll be sure to use the BB links :)

ESB and MSG would also be fine I think.

I seem to have read somewhere that The Meridien (4*) in CPS went for about 120$ around this time?

Your topic title lists your dates as: 3/27-3/4

I assume this is March 27-April 3?

I somehow prefer MTE to MTW...
Are you willing to pay more for one zone over another, or is price ultimately the most important factor and you're looking for the least expensive 3.5* or better hotel for this stay?

What is your maximum bid for this trip?

It would be appreciated if you began to share your wins with the board so that the information can help other users with their own purchases, just as others posting their wins helped you with your purchases.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes it is indeed March 27 to April 3rd, messing up the European and US date format :)

I would ultimately be willing to pay more for MTE than MTW.

I have been, and will continue to use the BB links for HOTWIRE and PRICELINE.

Given the zones you're willing to accept (MTE, CPS, Times Square, ESB and MSG) which zone(s) did you want to try first?

Did you want to try only MTE up to your limit before adding other zones? (or are other zones equally acceptable as MTE) Did you want to try for a 4* first up to your limit or is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

My priorities would be MTE, Times Sq., CPS and MSG in the order mentioned.

My goal would be least expensive 3,5* or better.

Thanks for taking the time to guide me.

So to confirm... you want to bid up to $120 for just the MTE zone, if that is rejected bid up to your limit for the TS zone, if that is rejected bid up to your limit for CPS, if that is rejected then try for MSG?

Bidding as per above, if a hotel is cheaper in MSG then in MTW... you'll be paying more for the MTW property. It's fine if this is your preference, and we'll advise to meet this criteria, but just want to confirm since the majority of users usually prefer the least expensive property out of any of their acceptable zones.

Well I rank MTE, TS and CPS equal, so the least expensive property in any of these zones would be ideal. If it's not possible to find anything here at max. 120$ then I'd be looking at MSG.

Thanks.

I was unable to identify this property from the Hotwire hotel list, anyone who has an educated guess?

Amenities: Restaurant, Business, High Speed Internet

Recommended in 75% Customer Reviews

Overall Satisfaction 4,0 (Tripadvisor rating?)

I'm guessing maybe Hudson where the Fitness has been removed, or Shearaton NY/City Club Hotel has been downgraded to 3,5* ?

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried bidding for the previous leg of this trip as posted in your other Priceline New York City thread?

Please post a follow-up to that thread with any results/decision/current thinking you have for that part of your stay. Then reply to this thread and we'll have a look at the above.

Thanks for the feedback, due to flight tickets running slightly over budget I'm looking to wait until end February to start bidding unless something exceptional comes up on Hotwire in the meantime.

My dates has changed to 3/28-4/4 not sure how to correct the topic?

Topic fixed. Please let us know when you are ready to bid or what you decide upon. Thanks. :)

I am now ready to bid for a property for my stay 3/28 - 4/4.

Would I be right to assume that the strategy is still the same as the one described above?

I would like to confirm my re-bid zones:

3,5*: Chelsea, Long Island and Upper East Side

4*: Brooklyn, Chelsea, Long Island, MSG, Upper East Side

Thanks for your help.

Saw another user having success with the New Yorker for 100$ at almost same dates, so tried that, and it worked, booked through this sites PRICELINE link of course.

Moderator: please change topic to New Yorker 3/28 - 4/4 100$

Congratulations on your success. :)

Awesome deal for this renovated NYC property! Glad you are pleased with the result and are looking forward to your stay.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's PRICELINE link.

Enjoy your stay.

So I thought I'd celebrate the good deal on my hotel (booked via this site) by booking a stretch limo from the airport to the hotel as a surprise to my girlfriend.

The best rate I have found is 95$ for a 6 pers. limo from EWR to The New Yorker Hotel on 8 AVE.

We'll be arriving on a Sunday night 9.30 PM, but I guess that's normal operating times for the companies?

Anyone has tips on where to get a better deal for this ?

Thanks in advance. :)

Posted

Thanks for this, but I looked into the pricing of the 95$ and it was excl. 20% gratuity, parking, toll etc. so the price would be something around $150 including everything. 100$ all included was about my maximum for a stretch limo, so I guess we'll settle for a Towncar from the Airport.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here goes:

I asked the hotel for a room with a city view and was offered the "upgrade" for $20+tax per night, for a "View room" instead of a "Metro room".

Would you reckon this upgrade would be worth an additional $160 for the week?

Posted

I guess I'd look at it this way: if you're going to be in the room a lot and would enjoy a view, it seems like a nice upgrade. If you're not going to be in the room a lot, that $20 can definitely go towards a lot of other things, such as a nice breakfast each day.
