thehabs25 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I am looking to book two rooms for May 2-7. The main thing for us is to have something central in new york city, a nice hotel and pay under $120. We have tried a couple bids so far:3.5*+, $90, MTE, MTW - Failed3.5*+, $100, MTE and MTW - Failed3*+, $100, MTE, MTW and CPS - FailedAny suggestions as to what to try next? Are we close? And what type of hotel are we looking at in our range? I dont think we would bid more than $110 max

thehabs25 Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Thank you for the reminder. I have updated my las vegas thread.
AaronJB Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I don't think you're far off in terms of 3.5* MTE; HOTWIRE has a 3.5* MTE (fitness, business, restaurant, internet; it could be the Roosevelt, Doubletree Met or Tudor, but I'm guessing it's the Roosevelt, given the tripadvisor rating on the detail page) for $119. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Does the HOTWIRE offer work for your plans... or do you want to try bidding again on PRICELINE? If the latter, did you want to try for a 3.5* up to $110, $115, $119??Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thehabs25 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 I think I'd like to try PRICELINE again. Do you have a bidding strategy I should try?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Did you want to try first for a 3.5* or a 3* hotel? Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? What is your maximum bid?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thehabs25 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 Can we try a 3.5 star first? MTE, MTW, CPS are the zones we would accept. I'm open to recommendations as well. This is our first time in NY and would like to stay somewhere as central as possible. I think the max bid would be $120.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Assuming you're OK with the Millenium UN... a very nice 3.5* hotel in the MTE zone, but about a 15 minute walk to the subway, i'd bid as follows....At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTE and CPS...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE and CPS and MTW...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. thehabs25 Posted January 23, 2010 Author Report Posted January 23, 2010 Sorry I should have put this in my prior message as well. Being close to the subway is pretty important since it will be our primary transportation. Will that change the bidding strategy?
thereuare Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 The Millenium UN is a 3.5* rated hotel in the MTE zone, and is about a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable or is that too far? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

I know the ladies would not be happy with that. Thanks.
thereuare Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Then i wouldn't include MTE in your bidding. Are ESB, TS and/or MSG acceptable... or do you only want to bid MTW and CPS?Let us know and we'll revise the strategy accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

Thank you. We want something nice, not too pricey and also close to subway since we will use that a lot we are thinking.
thereuare Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 At the 3.5* level you have THREE Priceline Re-Bidding Explained zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Start with our link to PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW, CPS, and TS...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW, CPS, TS and ESB...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. thehabs25 Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 Ok, I'm going to give it a try right now. I just want to confirm. My rebid zones, would they be chelsea and long island city?
thereuare Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 That's two of the three... but there is one more available. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thehabs25 Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 Tried and rejected on all bids. I'm going to wait a week and try again. What are my chances if I wait and keep trying on a weekly basis? Its still 3 months away.
thereuare Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 If you search HOTWIRE there is a 3.5* hotel in the MTE zone for $119/nite with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet and Business icons, as well as a TA rating of 3.5/5.0 with 1620+ reviews. This matches previous reports for the Roosevelt so that would be my best guess for this one.You were avoiding this zone due to the distance of the Millenium UN from the subway, but the above seems 'safe' since the number of reviews shown by HOTWIRE is many more than the Millenium UN, plus these are not the amenities previously associated with the Millenium, so this is within your budget and fairly close to subway lines.Does this work for your needs? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thehabs25 Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 Roosevelt is ok, but I think I'll wait a bit and a few more times. I'll keep you updated and my fingers crossed.
thehabs25 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Report Posted January 29, 2010 Tried again today and no success. I will try next week. Looks like the average price has come down though which is good.
thehabs25 Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 I'm thinking I might try MTE now. Millenium UN doesn't look like that bad of an option. I was reading some reviews and checked here: http://www.millenniumhotels.com/millennium...er_ny_plaza.pdf and it doesn't look like its a 15 minute walk to the subway. Grand central station is only a few blocks away. Please let me know if I'm totally wrong to assume this.
thereuare Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 It's about 15 minutes to the subway: Walking DirectionsIt is do-able, but it's a bit less convenient than ideal. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thehabs25 Posted February 4, 2010 Author Report Posted February 4, 2010 I was checking the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins and noticed that somebody got Hampton Inn Times Square (MSG) for $105 during the same time I'm going. What would be a good pricing strategy to try to get something like that property in that area?
thereuare Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 The dates of their Priceline win are not exactly the same as your own, which increases the chances that you receive a different hotel and/or price (there is even a chance you receive a different hotel if your dates were exactly the same, but any time you change any parameter the risk increases)Are you willing to accept any 2.5* property in the MSG zone? Any other zone(s) you wish to include when bidding this star rating? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
