thereuare Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Note that at the 3.5* level the Millennium UN is a posbility, and this hotel is a 15 minute walk from the subway... would this be an acceptable outcome?HOTWIRE does have what i believe to be the Holiday Inn Downtown for your dates for $95/nite... given this is located near a subway station, would you want to go with this offer on HOTWIRE, or try bidding on PRICELINE... where you won't have any educated guess as to the hotel you may receive, and therefore no guess as to how close to the subway you will be.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ErikS Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks. I've seen the previous posts about the Millennium. That scares me. It would be nice to closer to midtown, however. I've seen the Hotwire price on what appears to be the Holiday Inn SoHo and have come close to booking. Do you know many 3* hotels are there in the Downtown SoHo zone that could be using Priceline? I see the three listed on your site and all would be acceptable. Thanks again.
ErikS Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 thereuare - I think we're going to try for at least a 3* in MTE, MTW, ESB, or CPS with a max of $130 all in. We still would like to be close to subway stops. Thanks.
thereuare Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I've seen the previous posts about the Millennium. That scares me. It would be nice to closer to midtown, however. But if you received this property it would still be acceptable? Do you still want to include this zone in your bidding? Do you know many 3* hotels are there in the Downtown SoHo zone that could be using PRICELINE?We only know what has been reported to the board, and anything reported to the board would be listed in the Priceline Hotel ListI think we're going to try for at least a 3* in MTE, MTW, ESB, or CPS with a max of $130 all in. We still would like to be close to subway stops. Please confirm that you want to include the MTE zone in your bidding, and your maximum bid before taxes and fees (which i'm estimating at $105/nite)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ErikS Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Yes. We'll include MTE in the bidding with a max of $110 before taxes/fees. (We can handle the walk to the subway from the Millennium if we end up there.) Thanks.

ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 I've bid up to the $100 level with no luck. Would it be smart to start bidding on 3.5* hotels in the same areas? I've seen some wins at that level in the $110-$120 area. I'd be willing to go up to $120 at that level. Thanks again for your help. This is a great service.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 You could try the 3.5* level if you're willing to up your budget. If that's the approach you want to try next...The above assumes you have previously made the following bids above:Select 3* MTE and MTW and CPS...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE and MTW and ESB...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINENow i would bid:At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTE, MTW, CPS, and ESB (and Times Square if you would like this zone as well)...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 I want to make sure I get the rebid thing straight. A rebid zone on 3.5* would be the zone 11 (Upper East Side) because it has no 3.5* properties on Priceline?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Yes, that's correct... but more specifically, because it has no hotels rated higher than 3* (so if a zone has no 3.5* but it does have 4* hotels, it would NOT be a re-bid zone)As i'm guessing you're new to re-bidding, i'd suggest confirming all three of your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 You're correct. So the three rebid zones would be zone 3 (Chelsea), zone 6 (Long Island City) and zone 11 (Upper East Side)?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Yes, you got them right! Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 Went up to $120 on 3.5* and all were rejected. Any suggestions?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 What exactly is it that you're looking for from this stay? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 We plan on doing things all over the city--seeing a show, visiting museums, hanging out in Greenwich Village and the East Village. We want a decent/clean hotel that is close enough (10-15 minute walk) to the subway. I'm guessing we should include some other zones like Chelsea, MSG, SoHo in our bidding? Maybe try some 2.5* properties?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Do you need 'luxury' or are clean and well located more important? I don't have a particular property in mind, but for example, would a Holidy Inn suit your needs, or would you be looking for something higher rated? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 Clean and well-located. Max bid $120 plus taxes/fees. Yes, a place like a Holiday Inn or Doubletree would be fine. Thanks again.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Besides the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB zone which you have already bid at the 3.5* level... thoughts on adding MSG and/or Chelsea? Not sure if it will help, but it will certainly increase the number of hotels available that could accept your bid price. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ErikS Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 Adding MSG and Chelsea works for me. What would be a good bidding strategy at this point?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 My fault... no 3.5* hotels in the Chelsea zone. But to bid on the other zones at the 3.5* level with a $120 maximum bid, you have THREE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* CPS, ESB, MSG...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE, MTW, TS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125 (you can stop at $120 above but i think you'll likely make it this far and this would be the next bid if you choose to go up another $5)Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ErikS Posted February 16, 2010 Author Report Posted February 16, 2010 I just booked the Ramada Plaza New Yorker Hotel for $95/night using Betterbidding's PRICELINE link. I had seen the recent wins on your the calendar and decided to give it a shot. Thanks so much for all of the advice. This is a great service. I'm spreading the word.
