Mtuba2 Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I am totally new to this. We are wanting to stay in New York from 2 May - 5 May. I was hoping for a four star in Empire State area, or Times Square.Could you please advise me on what to bid? Thanks :)
AaronJB Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What would your maximum budget be per night? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
Mtuba2 Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 Probably about $160 or so all up. Could go a little higher. The hotel someone recommended to me (I am from Australia) was about $199 to book through the hotel. (Grand Union Hotel) (Not sure if taxes were added into that on the website). I also couldn't see what sort of rating (stars) this hotel had, so thought I would like to try my luck with Priceline.
thereuare Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The Grand Union hotel is a budget-oriented property which only receives 2 stars from Expedia... is this the type of accomodations you're looking for from this stay? What star rating are you seeking?Let us know your desired star rating and we'll take it from there. Also, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive property at the minimum star rating you select? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Mtuba2 Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Someone just suggested the Grand Union. We would obviously prefer a 4 star hotel!! I have tried bidding and was unsuccessful for $140 for Empire, MTW and Times Square. Any more advice?
thereuare Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Spring in NYC gets more expensive than the winning bid prices we're currently seeing for Winter dates. For starters... are there hotels which you're trying to avoid in the MTE and CPS zones since you're not including these areas in your bidding? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Mtuba2 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 I am not trying to avoid anywhere ... I don't know New York ... I am from Australia. Your advice on this matter would be appreciated. I just thought it would be nice to be in the central area, but I am open to suggestions! :)
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Generally speaking, at the 4* level the CPS, MTE, MTW, TS and ESB zones all work fine and are well located for the typical visitor.I would try these zones up to your limit, but at this point in time i think it will take a bit more (but again, no harm in trying). Take a look at the PRICELINE zone(s) and let us know if all of these appear to be acceptable and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Mtuba2 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 I tried again 4 star in the Empire State area, and bid $155. Priceline said to go up $25, so after a quick decision, I bid $180. It was successful and we got W New York - The Tuscany. I will have to do a bit of research now. It was only 174 of 411 hotels in Trip Advisor, but I am sure will be okay for a wonderful holiday.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Congratualtions on your success!Glad to see you have this stay settled for what is typically a busy time of year in NYC.If you like frozen margaritas i'd recommend El Rio Grande, just down the street from this hotel (Third Ave at 37th St)... they're expensive at $10/each, but they're potent and the chips and salsa (you may have to ask for these) are pretty good too! One more recommendation if you like burgers is the Jackson Hole on Third Ave at 35th St... one of the best burgers in the city and makes for a relatively inexpensive (by NYC standards) lunch/dinner.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
