ak_jorge
After much research on this site, we decided to purchase through Hotwire as there seemed to be little difference in price between that site and successful Priceline bids. This is a busy week in DC, with Congress just coming back into session and at least one large conference. We also were a bit concerned about which property we might get on Priceline, based on TripAdvisor reviews of likely Priceline hotels (e.g. the Grand Hyatt sounds noisy, there is a lot of renovation work going on at the Washington Hilton, etc.)We found the following description on Hotwire that was a clear match for The Liaison Hotel, which sounds pretty awesome. We knew this had to be the hotel, as it is the only 4* White House - Capitol Hill property on BetterBidding's hotel list that includes a pool):Smoke Free RoomsFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-speed Internet AccessIt also had a 75% positive rating, which matched TripAdvisor's profile for the hotel (76%).Interestingly, if we had limited our stay to the weekend only, the nightly rate would have been only $89. However, we needed to be there through Thursday, which upped the average nightly rate to $125. What I did not expect was the nearly $85 in taxes and fees that came with this purchase! In the end, our total Hotwire cost was $587; the reservation could be purchased directly through the hotel for just $60 more! Perhaps this is an indication of how cheap rooms in DC have become? Regardless, this was the best hotel we could afford through any channel, so we're happy about saving the $60.I do wonder now, though, if we could have saved an additional 50% by bidding on Priceline. But no regrets! We're too excited about the trip to spend any time worrying about an extra $200. Happily used the BetterBidding HOTWIRE link to start our purchase. Thanks! :) Link to comment
AaronJB
Congratulations on your success! :)Sounds like a very busy time period in DC and discounts may be limited as a result. If this was the result when using HOTWIRE, I would think it's very unlikely that PRICELINE rates would be substantially better.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's HOTWIRE link.Enjoy your stay. AaronJB
Not a problem! Glad I could help, and I definitely wouldn't worry about if PRICELINE would have been able to offer a substantially better deal (as DC can just be pricey at times, unfortunately.) Enjoy your trip! :) Link to comment
