Hotwire Hotel: General Hotwire Question

Hi there,

I have recently been looking for a hotel in NYC for April 25 - May 2. My question is, if i wait until i book my hotel until it is closer to the date, what are the chances it will be a lot cheaper? I looked at dates for the first week in February just out of curiousity and the prices seemed to be a lot cheaper. There will be three of us traveling and we are hoping to spend no more than 120$. Ideally i would like to stay around Times Square area as I have stayed in this area during 2 of my previous trips and have been able to find hotels for 120 or less.

So is it cheaper in february because the date is soon, or is the end of april just an expensive time in NY?

Thanks

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

It would depend on the dates, property and other factors, but in general, if you wait and the traffic that the hotel expects does not materialize, the price may fall (although to a realistic level, and hotels may have a floor where profit margins become an issue.) However, if something is going on on your dates and/or traffic is greater than expected, rates could rise suddenly or a HOTWIRE listing may just not appear anymore if inventory is gone.

Rates vary by dates/seasons, and can vary quite a bit from day-to-day. February is going to be less expensive than early Spring when the weather is starting to get a bit nicer.

Thank you very much! I will definitely keep that in mind!

I have been looking at at 99$ Downtown - SoHo Hotel that i believe is Holiday Inn Soho (138 Lafayette) and the price seems so good, but i am hesitant due to the area! I'll wait some time though and do more research.

Thanks again

Happy to help! :)

The HI Soho has been coming up for very reasonable rates (in comparison to reg. rates) recently for a few months in advance (maybe trying to ensure occupancy for a few months out), but it depends on whether the location is optimal for the traveler. Maybe not the most central location, but maybe (or maybe not) the low prices makes up for that to some degree.

NY Maniac,

I have stayed in the HI Soho before and it was alright. There is a metro station super close to the hotel, and it's proximity to Chinatown means there's a lot of cheap food around :)

I understand your hesitation though, I am also considering this hotel in comparison to some others in MTE/MTC/Chelsea. But in the end, I think it will be the HI... less money spent on the hotel means more money to be spent on museums, shows, shopping and all other amazing NY stuff :)
