robitude Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I've been trying to bid for a room either Downtown or at the Convention Center for the day after Mardi Gras through that Sunday, but have not had any success. I started yesterday by bidding in the $65 range for 4* hotels in these areas and fell short. Since then I've widened my bids to include 3.5* and 3* in the same areas, and am now up to an unsuccessful bid of $90 a night. I have to think that the proximity to Mardi Gras (even if it is the day after) is messing me up, and I'm considering splitting my stay in two: the Wednesday night at an airport hotel, and the rest of the stay downtown (if I succeed at bidding). Very hesitant to do this, but I'll do it if I have to. Anyone think I should keep raising my bid, split my stays across two hotels, or give up on Priceline entirely for this trip?
thereuare Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 For your complete stay HOTWIRE has a 4* in their Downtown zone for $63/nite with Boutique, Pool, Business and Internet icons. This matches previous reports for the Hilton St. Charles Avenue so that would be my best guess, but even if it isn't, seems like it would be better than your alternative given your reluctance to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.Does this HOTWIRE offer work for your plans? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. robitude Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 Excellent find - thank you very much! I had looked at Hotwire before for this trip, but when typing the name of the city on the Hotwire frontpage, I'd clicked on the "New Orleans, LA (MSY)" airport link instead of the link for New Orleans proper - this only returned airport hotels and a hotel in Metairie. Using the HOTWIRE link, I booked the $63 4* hotel downtown, and you were correct: this was the Hilton St. Charles Ave., which is using its Boutique designation. I can also report that according to a receptionist at the hotel, both the pool and the fitness center at this property have recently re-opened; this is contrary to what Hilton lists on its website about the property. I thought maybe the pool/fitness center maintenance was the reason for the great deal and was prepared to accept no pool and no gym, but if they're open as the receptionist says, the deal is that much better.
AaronJB Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Congratulations on your success! :)Excellent deal for this property! Another user also was asking about this HOTWIRE listing yesterday, and I thought it was the Hilton (and also thought that the deal may be due to renovation), but interesting to hear that the facilities at this property are open.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's HOTWIRE link.Enjoy your stay.
