bpturtle Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 My husband and I are looking for anything near the Sheraton for this Saturday, 1/15/2005. Is it too late to do any bidding for this and if not too late how should I do it? We want something nice...I suppose 3* or better but would like to stay around $50. Oh, and either Hotwire or Priceline will do.Thanks,Tara
thereuare Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please look at the maps of both Priceline and HOTWIRE and let us know what zone(s) you are willing to accept... your hotel can be anywhere within the shaded region(s) you select. It's much easier for you to tell us the zones as "close to the Sheraton" can mean many different things.... walkable, via streetcar, under $5 cab ride, etc.PS- i haven't looked too closely since i'm not really sure which zones you're interested in, but i suspect under $50 may be tough for a 3* or higher property Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bpturtle Posted January 14, 2005 Author Report Posted January 14, 2005 Thanks thereuare! Please see the following zone info:Priceline Zones: Convention Center would be best followed by FQ then CBDHotwire: Downtown NO would be best followed by FQThanks,Tara
thereuare Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 At the 4* level you have 5 re-bid zones, at the 3* level you have 3 re-bid zones. If you're unsure of your re-bid zones please ask for help and/or confirm them with the board before proceeding.I would proceed as follows:Select 4* and (insert zone here)Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $42, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $44, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $46, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50Repeat the above for each zone. After the first zone is rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline from a brand new screen, only including the new desired zone. After you have gone thru the 3 zones for 4* you can try for 3* as follows:Select 3* and (insert zone here)Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $50.Same process as above about closinging the browser and re-accessing each time a zone fails. If after all the above you don't have a hotel room and decide you want to raise your maximum bid, you can still bid more, but we'll cover that if all the above fails and you choose to raise your maximum bid.Good Luck, any questions feel free to ask. bpturtle Posted January 15, 2005 Author Report Posted January 15, 2005 Hi again thereuare!I have been having internet problems but am now set and ready to bid for this evening. I'm not sure what's meant by the re-bid zones. Also, according to your instructions, do I try each star level twice? Sorry, this is my first time bidding so I'm a big ignorant on how this all works.Hope you get this soon. Thanks,Tara
thereuare Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Re-Bidding is explained in this thread: PRICELINE 72 HOURS. Since this is your first time using Priceline i would recommend that you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Ask questions regarding anything you don't understand. If you hae Yahoo Instant Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger i can walk you thru the process in 'real time'... just PM me your screenname. bpturtle Posted January 15, 2005 Author Report Posted January 15, 2005 Hi thereuare! Thanks for all of the help. Unfortunately, you were right...none of these were accepted. Now we will go up to $60 but that will be it. We live in the area but are attending a Mardi Gras ball in the city and are looking for a hotel for convenience so would like to limit the cost. Any new strategy? Thanks,Tara
thereuare Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Fortunately you have multiple zones which you are willing to accept and have not yet bid them in conjunction with each other....Select 4* Convention Center and FQ...Bid $52, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $54, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $56, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $59, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $60.If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 4* Convention Center and CBD...Bid $52, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $54, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $56, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $59, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $60.If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 3* Convention Center and FQ...Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $56, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $60If rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 3* Convention Center and CBD...Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $56, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $60Good Luck.
