dogsbody Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Hi, I hope this question isn't too daft... I'm very much a PL newb.I've seen references to folks modifying their trip in order to keep bidding, several times, seemingly, all in one session, until they're successful. I am wondering how to modify my original request so that I can do this? PL is giving me the option of adding areas, or lower * ratings. But really, my area and * preference is fixed. My initial bid was rejected, and I was offered a free one time counter offer of X amount, but I didn't accept, not wanting to increment my first (ever!) bid by that much.I tried adding an area, and deliberately lowballing, knowing that the bid wouldn't be accepted, but hoping I could then delete an area, and go back to my original configuration, and incrementing by the amount I wanted, but it seems that once an area is added, it can't be removed. Is this possible, or are my only options to 1) add areas/* ratings as suggested, or 2) wait 24 hrs?TVM!UPDATE: OK, I really may be showing my newbie colors here... minutes after the above post, I got a PL email inviting me back to try again. I did, raised my bid, and got my hotel booked. I'll post up my bid details separately.I'm still curious if this is the typical sequence of events.
thereuare Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! This would be easier to explain with specific examples... can you please let us know the details of your orignal bid (star rating, zone, bid amount) and how much PRICELINE suggested as a counter-offer.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. dogsbody Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 This is my first time using PL. I started at $45, counteroffer said to try $13+, was able to rebid once (for "free"?) at $50. While I was figuring out how to rebid -see my other post- I got an email inviting me back to try again, had success at $55. :)Of course I used the PRICELINE links from the board, thanks to the board creators!
dogsbody Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 Hey thereuare, yo can see my other post for some of the details, but here you go;Was looking for Houston Galleria area, 4*, 1st bid was 45, counter was +13, my counter to that was 50, and then that's as far as I got it seemed. I could only add new areas, or lower * ratings, which I didn't want to do. Then while I was searching and reading more posts here, I got a PL email that had a "try again" button, and was able to rebid 55.
thereuare Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you were successful and have your first PRICELINE win under your belt! Hope you're happy with the results and this property works well for your needs.Regarding the re-bidding. PRICELINE doesn't enable you to UNcheck a zone, but you can work around this by closing the browser, re-acess PRICELINE, then selecting the only the zones you would have selected if you were able to deselect a zone. For example, let's say you bid 4* for ZoneA and were rejected, then added ZoneB as a re-bid. Now you want to lower your star rating to 3.5* only bidding ZoneA, since ZoneB has 3.5* hotels (and you only added this previously as a re-bid at the 4* level). You could close the browser, access PRICELINE once again... and only select ZoneA and 3.5*, and bid as usual. This essentially allows you to uncheck ZoneB. Hope this was clear enough for you to follow.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding. (NOTE: please don't use the links in any emails priceline sends... please return to the board and use our links here)Enjoy your stay.
