ny_wannabe Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Hello everyoneI am new to the board.I have never used Hotwire before. A group of us will be traveling to NYC in April and we are considering booking through Hotwire. We would need five rooms for a total of 18 people.Since I have not booked before, I don't know (and honestly doubt) if Hotwire asks you what number of double/triple/quad rooms you would require. Or do they? What would be the best way to handle this, email the hotel after we reserve?Thank you for your replies
AaronJB Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)HOTWIRE does not offer an option to select bedding except with their new "bed choice" option shown on some offerings.PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy (2 people/1 bed.) Rooms at many properties in NYC are on the small side (and some VERY small) and rooms with beds (if available) do usually go at a premium (some properties - such as some smaller boutique properties - may not have rooms with 2 beds.) While one can make a request to the hotel for two beds on a PRICELINE reservation, it is only a request and the hotel can say no. Overall, using PRICELINE for 2 beds in NYC is definitely a risk.HOTWIRE does allow you to search for up to 4 in the room and ensures bedding (and that may be two beds, 1 bed + sofabed or other arrangement) for everyone you include in your search. Please let us know your dates of travel, amount of people per room, desired area of NYC to stay in, desired star rating and desired budget per room and we would be happy to help suggest possible options.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 I do see how you could make this work, but it will be dependent upon your expected budget. Do you need double occupancy for any of the rooms (as it doesn't appear that would be the case)Let us know the dates, desired star rating, and budget and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ny_wannabe Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Posted January 17, 2010 Thank you everyone for your replies.I'm not sure I want you all wasting your time helping me find deals when we are not yet sure about the total number of people traveling. Our dates are April 11-16 and right now we need three rooms for four people and two rooms for three. We are looking for 3* and up and of course trying to keep the price as low as possible - all those $169 per night per room deals look good.
AaronJB Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Happy to help! :) Will the party be all adults? I'll take a look and see if any things pop up.
ny_wannabe Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Posted January 17, 2010 Four will be 17. The rest of us are over 18.
ny_wannabe Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 I searched:April 11-161 room 4 people$152 per nightAmenities includeFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)High-speed internet accessAlso (same dates)Chelsea - Madison Square Garedn$179 per nightComplimentary BreakfastFitness CenterBusiness CenterHigh-speed internet accessI found that this might be the HI Express, any other options?Thank you!
AaronJB Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 My guess for the 3* MTC is the Holiday Inn Midtown, while the 3* MSG is likely the HI Express. You could do better for the HI Midtown by using Orbitz, where it's $165 non-refundable and coupon code FABSAVE10 takes 10% off.Additionally, I'm actually seeing the HI Express TS South for $160.40 non-refundable via Orbitz.com and there actually - quite surprisingly - does not appear to be any extra person fees when searching for 4 adults in the room. This is a newer Holiday Inn Express property that I believe opened last year. If you use the FABSAVE10 coupon code, you also do get 10% off = $144.36.Please use the site's PRICELINE, Orbitz or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.
ny_wannabe Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Thank you.Another question about HW - if I book a room for four people, will the hotel still charge us additional fees for extra people in the room? How high are they usually? Also, I should expect some sort of a resort fee?
thereuare Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The rate you pay HOTWIRE is for the number of guests you searched for... there shouldn't be any additional charges paid to the hotel in regards to occupancy. Resort fees are not common in NYC and i wouldn't expect there to be any.Have you firmed up your plans and the number of rooms/guests you need? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ny_wannabe Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Unfortunately not yet. NY is the final part of our trip and the original plan did not include it, so people are still thinking it over. :)
ny_wannabe Posted February 19, 2010 Author Report Posted February 19, 2010 Ok, here we go:April 11-1618 people - 5 rooms. 5 are under 18. Looking at the 3* in MTC which seems to be Holiday Inn Midtown and the 3.5* in MTE. Until recently there was a 3* in MSG which included breakfast, but unfortunately no longer there. If you have any advice, we'd appreciate it.
thereuare Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 What is the price of what you believe to be the Holiday Inn above? What is your budget (per room per nite before taxes and fees) for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too! ny_wannabe Posted February 19, 2010 Author Report Posted February 19, 2010 I used the HOTWIRE link for this search: Right now it's listed at $155 - MTC 3* with fitness, pool, restaurant and high speed internet. (Holiday Inn?)The MSG one is back on the list - $165 per room - 3* with breakfast, fitness, business center and internet. (HI Express?)Also looking at the 3.5* in MTE going at $169 with fitness, restaurant, business center and internet. (Tudor/Roosevelt?)These prices are acceptable to us - a three star hotel, the cheaper the better :) we wouldn't go higher than $170.
thereuare Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I agree with your guesses above. The Holiday Inn Express generally gets the better reviews of the three, there are multiple subway lines about 5 blocks away in any direction, and with a large group such as this it can often be nice having everyone meet for breakfast and not have to worry dividing up the check :)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know which you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. ny_wannabe Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 3* with breakfast, fitness, business center and internet at $165 per room per night was the HI Express. Used the HOTWIRE link of course. There was an issue with the CC - our country was not one the list . that freaked me out a bit, but then I called someone who I knew had reserved there before and was told to choose US. It did work - hopefully everything will be fine :)
thereuare Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that you're happy with the results.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay. ny_wannabe Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Hi, I have yet another question. Will the hotel allow 4 people under 18 years of age to check into one room? Or will they insist that an adult is present in the room? There are other adults in the group, so it's not as if they were trying to check in all by themselves. I'm just wondering if they will have an issue with letting them stay together.
thereuare Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 The hotel will not 'knowingly' allow a room where all occupants are under 18 (or 21 depending upon the hotel). You may be able to workaround this by having one room with a connecting door, putting those under 18 in one room and a 'responsible' adult in the connecting room. You may also be able to assign one adult to each room, and the split up the keys among yourselves, but realize should something happen with the underage kids or if they cause damage to the room, the adult assigned to that room would be responsible.
