This is the one hotel that I did not want to win. I'm pretty annoyed with myself considering I know how to use these boards to my advantage. Personally, I think I way overpaid for this hotel during this time period. However, I'm trying not to get completely silly about it considering how much I've saved over the years using PRICELINE, HOTWIRE and these boards. My lesson for everyone is bid low, low, low! It could be worse though. At least the Warwick is an amazing location and is unique. I used the PRICELINE link here to start my bidding. :)
thereuare Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Sorry to hear you're disapointed with the hotel you recieved. The reviews for this property are mixed, but definately have a more positive bias, so i don't think it will be too bad. Not sure what it is about this hotel that you don't like, but as you point out, it does have an excellent location... and is near the famous for those late nite snacks! (even if you won't eat from a food cart, check out the line that begins to form starting at 7:30pm and stays constant throughout the nite)Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay... it's NYC, so i'm sure you'll have a great time regardless! chicagosecretagent Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 Well, let me say that I am hotel spoiled, especially because we've been in a recession these last few years. I, like many other people here, have been able to score super cheap rooms at ultra low rates thanks to this board and other websites. I've been able to stay at places like the James in Chicago, Iron Horse in Milwaukee and many lux Kimpton hotels for less than $100 per night. Can you see a trend here? I'm spoiled and cheap! :) Hey, thank you so much for the chicken and rice car reminder. I LOVE food carts. Something I really dislike about Chicago is that they aren't allowed here. We have the tamale guy but that's it. Thanks again for providing such a valuable resource to the public. I have gained so much from reading here. I will continue to use your links in the future.
thereuare Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I understood your issue with this hotel, and while i haven't stayed there, i don't think it's too bad... it's just relative to where you've been staying and the other deals you've recently been able to secure.Regarding the food cart... make sure you go after 7:45pm as somebody else is there earlier in the day... and their sister carts (one on the other side of Sixth Ave and one on Seventh Ave are not nearly as good, imo)Have a great time in the city. chicagosecretagent Posted February 15, 2011 Author Report Posted February 15, 2011 I know this is a really old topic, but just wanted to update. The Warwick was a total dump. The lobby was teeny, tiny (even by NY standards). The room was AWFUL. The carpet was filthy and stained. The wallpaper was torn off all around the room. Lampshade was broken. Stains in ceiling. It is by no means a four star hotel as Priceline advertises it. The location is fine, but I would never, ever stay here again.
thereuare Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay.Being an older/historic hotel, i think the rooms are of varying quality and depending upon the type of room received, it can lead to very different experiences. The majority of reviews of read on this property are positive, but there are a few 'disappointed' comments as well. In the future if you receive a room you find subpar i'd try to discuss with management to see if you can get assigned a new one... things like "it's dark" or "outdated" won't go very far to getting a new room assigned, but specific and tangible comments such as torn wallpaper, broken lampshades, and stains can often go a long way to a new (and often) upgraded room. Thanks for your comments... hope your future stays are better.
