AaronJB Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Congratulations on your success! Not sure what you are referencing regarding the $20, but I'm guessing you are talking about the $20 trick (there is a thread regarding this that I can't seem to find at the moment), which is more commonly used in Vegas. Personally, I would just politely (as your success may depend on who you talk to) call and ask if any upgrades are available for your stay. If they say no (or no because you are a priceline customer), then say that you would be willing to pay an upgrade fee. See what they say. If they say no again, you could try at check-in, but I wouldn't go in expecting anything. PRICELINE and HOTWIRE reservations are not eligible for upgrades.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.Enjoy your stay.
MadFlyer Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I had heard that this hotel sometimes offers a paid upgrade to a "larger" room for $20 at the desk. They sell 4 room types on their website. Queen Petit, which they say directly in the description "...is best suited for single guests...", Deluxe King (+$15 when booking directly with hotel on website) , Deluxe 2 Double (+$30 website rate) and then a high floor lounge access option. It is normal that hotels upsell at the desk. I often pay $10 to $50 for a better room or Executive Lounge room that often includes drinks and light food options. Many Marriotts do this. It is especially common at Luxury Resort or central large city center hotels. Many hotels now have signs advertising these offers on the desk or in lobby. One could argue with this hotel upon arrival that priceline states room for 2 and their website states those queen rooms are only best for single guests. I do not think that would be popular and with such a great rate would rather pay for it and be gauranteed of room type. I have emailed request with no answer at this point. I will call later if they do not answer this week and update here.
Tom Mentzer Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 Thanks for the advice. I did email and upgrade to a King Deluxe for $20/night. Still put me at about 50% of their advertised rate. And I did use BetterBidding's PRICELINE link to do my bidding, so thanks again.
