Hi - Newbie here.

Yup, THIS weekend! 1/16-17 (Sat night). DD has a ballet audition at Lincoln Center on Sunday afternoon. We're driving down from New England so will have a car to park.

Confused about the best area to search.....Times Square? Midtown Central? Central Park?

If we have a car parked - I'm assuming that at checkout, you take your car - is that right? Or can you pay extra to leave it there a few more hours?

We have 2 adults, 2 kids (8,13) - first visit to NYC. Would like 3+ stars in a safe and central location so at least we can walk around bit.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks!

Welcome to Betterbidding! :)

Congrats on the audition at Lincoln Center!

Are you mainly going to be focused on the audition/event, or are you going to have time to do some sightseeing? Additionally, what would be your desired budget per night for hotel? HOTWIRE would be the best choice in this case as PRICELINE does not guarantee 2 beds.

Let us know your thoughts on the above and then we can suggest how to proceed.

We're hoping to do a little sightseeing on Saturday with the kids. Their references to NYC are Eloise, Elf and Night at the Museum...so maybe we'd make it to the History Museum - we're NOT staying at the Plaza though...we'd love to go to the Guggenheim.

Budget is $100-$175 (maybe could go up a bit), plus concerned about the car - how do we handle that?

It's all so confusing...hoping to secure something soon so I don't have to keep looking at all these websites....I think my eyes will be crossing soon!

Thanks...

When searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children they have a 3.5* hotel in the Chelsea zone for $149/nite with Fitness, Restaurant, Internet. Best guess for this is The New Yorker, which used to get poor reviews, but has since been renovated and the reviews are actually very good now. While not walkable to Lincoln Center, you could walk one block to 7th Ave to get the 1 Train which will give you a direct trip to Lincoln Center in under 10 minutes (altnernately you can take the A or C train at the corner of the hotel, then transfer to the 1 train at 59th St.

There is also a 3* offered in this zone for $129/nite with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business which believe to be the Holiday Inn Sixth Avenue. If so this would be slightly less convenient to Lincoln Center, but still relatively easy with one tranfer needed via subway.

Neither of these hotels are "next door" to Lincoln Center, but seem like good choices based upon price, easy access to Lincoln Center, and well located to head towards other areas of the city.

As far as parking, you'll find plenty of lots around the city which will be cheaper than leaving the car at your hotel.

Could that 4* Midtown Central hotel for $189 be the Royalton? Trying to match up the ammenities. Or does the 3.5 trip advisor rating knock that out of the running? The only other time we've been to NYC we stayed there. Stunning. Awesome. But that was before kids...!

There is also a 3* Times Square for $173 w/4 out of 5 Trip Advisor rating. Amens: NS, rest, business, internet. Any guesses?

Trying to decide between the midtown higher priced area and the lower priced Chelsea area. The info about the subway is very helpful - that does open up more possibilities. A friend told me about the new Ace Hotel which looks interesting (we like vintage, 50s, etc), but it's too pricey. and not on Hotwire, obviously. Next time maybe.

Thanks.

The MTC for $189 w/smoke-free, fitness, business, restaurant, internet would likely be the Sheraton NY/Towers. The 3* TS likely the Belvedere, although I'm actually seeing that property for $161 via Expedia.

Also on Expedia - Novotel TS for $169, and it says on Expedia that kids eat free (breakfast) at this property, which is a pretty good deal (plus a "city view".)

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Expedia links.

Thanks so much for all the assistance, made the reservation thru your Expedia link - $169 for a double, free breakfast - Novotel Times Square - was worried that I was running out of time....! Should I update something somewhere? Not sure because I just see HOTWIRE and PRICELINE here...
