I am trying to figure out how to get into a particular hotel.

Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains 3.5 stars. Can you please tell me how this is determined?

You can't bid on a specfic hotel... the deep discounts you often see reported here on the board is in exchange for being flexible in your plans. When you bid on PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the minimum star rating (or higher) that you select. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to the hotel you may receive based upon the amenities shown before your purchase, but it's still an educated guess and there are no guarantees.

If you need a specific hotel then it's recommended you book thru a non-opaque source... if you're flexible in the hotel you receive the opaque providers can often offer substantial discounts.
