van2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Hi,Trying to plan a NYC trip from May 5 to May 12, 2010. Hoping to stay in MTE or MTW. Is this too early to start bidding on Priceline? If not, what should the bid strategy be (looking for a 4 or 3.5 star hotel). Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding! :)This would not be too early to start bidding for the Spring season. What would be your desired budget per night for hotel? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Also, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
van2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Author Report Posted January 10, 2010 My budget would be between $100 to $125 per night. So either 4* or 3.5* would work for me. I was interested in the 4* since I read some some people were getting the Grand Hyatt for $106/night.Also, what zones in NYC would allow me at a free bid (i.e. no 4* in the area). Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Users are getting low prices for 4* hotels in NYC for winter dates... rates for May are likely to be higher. Based upon current rates i'm doubtful you'll see 4 star rates at $125 or less in May. If you want to give it a try, you have FIVE re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in NYC. Please see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board. If you're confused by reading the previous link just ask for help and we'll break it down further for you, but you need to know how to determine your re-bid zones on your own since they need to be checked before every bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed and you don't end up in an area you didn't intend.Let us know how you make out with the re-bid zones and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. van2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 I've tried bidding 3 times so. Bid on 4* (MTE, MTW, TS and CPS) for $120 but no luck.I'm thinking of bidding for 3.5*, any suggestions on how I should approach? I've read some of the other thread and want to avoide the Millenium UN so are there any areas I should bid on that would be convenient? Thanks for our help!
thereuare Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 For the average visitor the MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, MSG, and ESB zones should all work well at the 3.5* level. The ESB zone does extend further east, but the only 'known' 3.5* hotel in this zone is centrally located conveniently enough. The CPS zone does have some 3.5* hotels which have rooms which are notoriously small... doesn't bother some as they feel they're only using the room to sleep, whereas others for longer stays prefer larger rooms.Let us know which zone(s) you'd like to include and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. van2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 My main concern is location so all the areas you mentioned would be fine. Should i avoid MTE so that I can avoid the Millenium UN? Please advise. Thanks
thereuare Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 If you wouldn't want the Millennium UN then you shouldn't include the MTE zone in your 3.5* bidding... what are your thoughts about the ESB, MSG and/or CPS zones? Did you want to include these other zones in your bidding? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. van2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 I bid yesterday for 3.5 star hotel. Was hoping for a hotel in MTW, TS or CPS I started bidding at $100 which was rejected and then using the 3 free re-bids ended up bidding $120 but was rejected.I decided to add MTE even knowing that the Millenium UN was a possibility and bid $111. The bid was accepted and the hotel ended up being the Roosevelt Hotel. Which I am extremely happy with since the location was so central. Now the hotel is done, just need to find good deals on flights from Seattle to New York or Vancouver, BC to New York.Thank you so much for your help!
