dfwinjurylawyer Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 for January 6-9Started with the PRICELINE link on this page at $50 for a 4 star hotel in Newport/Hunnington Beach, rejected. Started rebids adding $5 each on each one. On last possible rebid today (7th rebid), $85 was accepted by Hyatt Regency Hunnington Beach. This hotel was listed at $219 a night on regular price line, so I'm thrilled with this price, though it is higher than some folks got it on other dates. I guess a little football game being played in Pasadena on the 7th may have something to do with it!
thereuare Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Congratulations on your success! An excellent deal given the football game and current hotel direct rates. tommyd229 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Yes you are correct. The Alabama team / media / crew and maybe Texas as well are staying at the Marriot in Fashion Island this week. That would explain the higher than normal price. Thanks for sharing your win.
dfwinjurylawyer Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 Brief follow up. This is a true resort property and reminded me of the Hyatt on Kaui, if you've been there, though the pools aren't anywhere near as elaborate at this property. It is 4 stories high, california mission architecture and sprawls along the PCH 1 with most, if not all rooms with a view of the Pacific on the balcony. There are multiple pools, bars, restaurants and a very, very nice spa. This was kid friendly, quiet and first class hotel on all fronts. We hope to get this hotel again and return with the whole family. Loved it!The only downsides we experienced was that it was a lengthy walk from the lobby to our room (who really cares?) and they do charge both a resort fee per day ($15 I think) and the charge for valet parking -$25 a day- is ridiculous. Still, if you aren't oppposed to walking, and this is a walking friend place and town, $10 a night over the pedestrian bridge and in the beach parking is not bad...though you can't go in or out after 10.
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Glad to hear you had such a nice stay at this property! :)
