kelmn07 Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 I am looking into a hotel stay in Boston for New Year's Eve, the choice is pretty last minute. I saw on a previous post a 4* hotel chosen in revere/logan for less than $100. I would like to bid in this area, but don't want to be much farther than the airport, the zone looks pretty large though. How likely am I to get something much farther from boston? We'll be taking a taxi at the end of the night and we don't want the taxi alone to cost an arm and a leg in addition to the cost of the hotel on this night...any bidding suggestions? Looking at priceline, Orbitz, and hotwire, hotels are ranging from $250-well over $400, which usually cost much less.
thereuare Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 If you're referring to this priceline win for $68 at the Hyatt Harborside, that win is for a date other than your own, so you may not be able to replicate that win at that same price. If you choose to use PRICELINE you can receive a hotel anywhere in the zone, so you'll first need to decide if you'd be happy with a property anywhere in the zone (and the taxi expense that comes with it). If not, i'd stick with other zones that are more convenient to where your plans will likely be.If you decide to bid, is this the only zone you're willing to accept? kelmn07 Posted December 29, 2009 Author Report Posted December 29, 2009 Actually, I'd like some place much closer, but our budget with tax is $200 with a minimum 3* hotel. That is the hotel I was referring to and I realize that I won't get it for that price on new year's eve, but I was really just curious to see if I bid on a 4* in that section if I am likely to get that, or something much farther away. Not sure if Revere even has any 4* hotels?
thereuare Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 Nobody can say if you will receive this hotel, or a different one, and whether it will be closer or further away... as noted above, the hotel you receive can be anywhere within the shaded region of the zone. What is your maximum bid price (before taxes and fees) and which zone(s) are you willing to accept a hotel anywhere in the zone? Did you want to bid higher for a 4* hotel OR are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kelmn07 Posted December 29, 2009 Author Report Posted December 29, 2009 I am looking for a minimum of a 3*, so I would go for a 3.5 or 4 too, in the region 1,2,5,9, and MAYBE 4 with a maximum cost of $200 including taxes...so probably a highest bid of around 180 or 185. Like I said I don't want to be too far out as a taxi each way will cost at least $20 to get into the city.
thereuare Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 I am looking for a minimum of a 3*, so I would go for a 3.5 or 4 too...If you're willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* vs. a 3* please let us know your maximum bid at each star level.in the region 1,2,5,9, and MAYBE 4...To avoid any confusion please let us know the zones by PRICELINE name. As well, do you want to not include zone4 (whatever zone that it is) at this point and only include later, or should that zone be included in a bidding strategy?so probably a highest bid of around 180 or 185.$180-$185 will likley put you over $200 all-in.HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Waterfront zone for $208/nite ($243 all-in) which i'm guessing is the Westin. While over your budget, it is closer to Downtown than the airport hotels so perhaps this would be acceptable for a bit more given the 'known' more reasonable taxi fare?HOTWIRE also has a 3* in the Airport zone for just $80/nite which matches previous reports for the Wyndham Chelsea... not sure how (in)convenient this would be for your plans, but given the much cheaper cost than your budget, perhaps this would work?Let us know your thoughts on the above adn how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kelmn07 Posted December 31, 2009 Author Report Posted December 31, 2009 I guess I'm not sure what the max I would pay at each level would be, because my perception of what I believe the cost should be is skewed because what it would normally cost on any other night than this one. Overall, I only want to spend no more than $200, so the most I would spend for any * is that much. If after not having any 4* bids accepted and adding all regions that I want that are 3.5 and 3*, doesn't it then consider my $170 bid for all of those star levels in all the regions i select?Regions desired:Boston Harborfront, Boston Waterfront, Copley-Theater District, Quincy MarketAnd I will definitely look into the Hotwire hotels.
AaronJB Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Just to clarify, have you bid for 3* or 3.5*? If you have only bid for a 4*, then you could only possibly get a 4*. I'm seeing a 3* in the Boston Common-Theatre District area on HOTWIRE for $192 and a 4* Cambridge property for $185 when I search for these dates, although the 3* only appears to come up when searching for 1 adult.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
kelmn07 Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 Hi, yes I was bidding for 3 and 3.5* too. Although $200 was my budget, that was an extreme case...we couldn't find anything so ended up booking directly through a hotel site for only $107 two T stops away from Boston, so it all worked out int he end, but thanks for all the advice/willingness to help, it's appreciated!
