GDrinnen2 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 I'm trying to book a room in DC from 12/29 - 1/1. I've been to DC a couple of times between Christmas and New Year's. It's a great time to visit. The hotels are empty, the attractions are open (but empty), and its easy to get anywhere. My wife and I are hoping to go this year.I've been looking at prices and it looks like there have been some winning bids in the $50 - $60 range for Convention Center. My preference is to stay in Downtown, Conv. Center, Foggy Bottom, or Dupont Circle/Woodley Park. What would be a reasonable bid amount? Also, for a good deal, I'd be open to Crystal City. I noticed the Holiday Inn Crystal City is $67 on their website, priceline, and hotwire. I figured a $39 bid for a 3* in Crystal City would bag that won, but it didn't. Any guesses?
thereuare Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! With your Crystal City rejection, what do you want to try next... did you want to bid higher for this zone OR did you want to bid one of the DC zones you mentioned above? What star rating are you seeking? If less than 4*, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive hotel at the minimum star level you have selected?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. GDrinnen2 Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Well, as I'm just bidding on priceline for the first time, I'm trying to learn.I guess my main goal is to get the cheapest 3* or above hotel in the neighborhoods I mentioned. Crystal City would be the lowest on my list with all the other neighborhoods I mentioned about the same. However, I would be fine with Crystal City if all the other neighborhoods are twice as much.
thereuare Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 So if your next step is to try for a 3* or better in any of the DC proper zones you mentioned, up to your $60 limit, i'd try bidding as follows:Select 3* Downtown and Convention Center...Bid $40, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle...Bid $40, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Foggy Bottom and Convention Center...Bid $45, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown and Dupont Circle...Bid $45, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown and Dupont Circle...Bid $50, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Foggy Bottom and Convention Center...Bid $50, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown and Convention Center and Foggy Bottom...Bid $55, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown and Convention Center and Dupont Circle...Bid $55, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Downtown and Convention Center and Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle...Bid $60Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. GDrinnen2 Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 Thanks for the help. I was in a bit of a crunch and big before I read your post. I now understand your post about strategy. We ended up with the Sheraton National for $42/night in Arlington. The hotel was actually extraordinarily nice, but the location wasn't good at all. There is a shuttle to the metro (over a mile) that was incredibly unreliable.

GDrinnen2 Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 I'm needing to return to DC in February 2/22 - 2/27. I need to stay in Foggy Bottom. Our group has a negotiated rate of $145 at the Marriott in Foggy Bottom. However, it looks like I should be able to get something better. If I'd like to pay $75 for a 4* in Foggy Bottom, what would be the best strategy.
