Lanlan Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 * First Bid: Wailea Area & Resort @ $95 - got it!!!I bid on August 7th.Check-In: Wednesday, December 9, 2009-03:00 PMCheck-Out: Tuesday, December 15, 2009-12:00 PMRoom Cost (avg. per room, per night): $95.00 (USD)Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 6Room Subtotal: $570.00 (USD)Taxes and Fees: $88.62 (USD)Total Room Cost: $658.62 (USD)Thanks to the previous posts for providing great tips. I just got back from the trip. The receptionist asked whether I wanted to upgrade to an ocean view room for $75.00. I thought it was for the whole stay but it was for a night. So I said "No, thanks!" Hotel had decent Luau with buffet. You can save about $100 ticket per person if you want to sit through Marriott time share marketing in Kaanapali. If you can get an appointment for after 2 pm, it's worth to try. But don't waste your time if it's a morning appointment with a salesman. It's not worth to lose your morning snorkeling time just to save $200. At least that's what I thought.Marriott charges $15 parking per day. Internet costs $13.99 per day!! I ended up paying $122 more, so the total hotel fee was $780.62.I stopped by Costco which is close to the air port and got some water bottles, fruits, some drinks and cheese. Food in Maui is so~ expensive.I liked Paia fish market and Flatbread pizza in Paia. Decent food for decent price. The only downside is Paia's not near the beach. Stop by Foodland grocery store in Kihei if you want to grab some packaged snacks including salads, sandwitches, musubi, sushi, etc.One last thing, I rented from Avis in Maui at the air port. The sales clerk at Avis pushed us to buy gas at Avis telling us that regular gas station at Maui is 10 cents per gallon more expensive. So we get that option only to find out by the time we return the car, gas price was actually 10 cents lower than what they charged us. The option costs $63 but there were all kinds of fees broken down so it's hard to tell whether that's the right amount for the option. Anyway, I really didn't like the sales clerk's disonesty. Don't buy any insurance and GPS as well. Our weekly rental was $183 through Costco travel but the bill came out $316.Hope this will help. Happy bidding and have a great time in Maui!
