Hotwire Hotel: Can not find Chicago - Loop 4*?

Hello,

I am planning to book a hotel in the loop of Chicago for a Thursday - Sunday in February or March. I have gone through the pinned thread and many threads, and have deduced that the Palmer House (the one I really want), is a 4* hotel. There have been many who booked on here and gotten that. I now search on HOTWIRE for a hotel in the loop, and I only have results for a 3* and 3.5*. I have searched for multiple weekends, so I don't know that at 4* is offered? Or is 2 months just too short a time window for 4 stars to have discounts?

I'm not into taking a risk on priceline, and as I understand, hotwire only has two possibilities in the loop (the Palmer House being one).

Anyone have an idea, or should I just wait for someone on here to book the Palmer House and Pounce?

Thanks!

(yes I will use the links at the bottom of the page to book :) )

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Note the comments at the top of the Hotwire Hotel List... the lists are only hotels that have been reported to the board... there could always be others which have not yet been reported.

HOTWIRE will only show one hotel at each star rating per zone. If you're not currently seeing any 4* hotel in the Loop zone for the dates you have searched then no 4* hotels in this zone have made rooms available to HOTWIRE for these dates.

Nobody can say when, or if, rooms at a 4* hotel for these dates will become available.

Please let us know your confirmed dates of travel and we will be happy to look at what is available. Do you need the Palmer for a particular reason? (Location?) It's a fine hotel, but there are quite a few very nice properties in the city.

February 18th 19th and 20th.

My girlfriend wants to stay there. It isn't like she wouldn't be happy elsewhere, but I KNOW it would be special there. Don't know why, but she specified it....Women..

Well, as mentioned above, unfortunately the Palmer is not showing on HOTWIRE for these dates. While you could bid on PRICELINE for a 4* in the Millennium Park/Loop/Grant Park area, that is a roll of the dice, as there are several other potential 4* properties that could also appear as a win when making that bid.

The Palmer is showing for $159 on Orbitz.com for these dates, but personally, in terms of historic properties, I'd rather recommend the Intercontinental, which is a terrific 4* property on Michigan Ave. with a pretty neat history (one of the first pools built on a higher floor, etc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterContinental_Chicago) and is showing for less at $123. Coupon code WELCOME10 gets an extra 10% off per night at either property.

There's also the renovated and quite historic Blackstone Hotel (which is a Renaissance property) for $100, although that is further South in the Loop than the Palmer. Unfortunately, the Orbitz.com coupon doesn't work for this property.

In terms of non-historic properties, the Sutton Place Hotel is an excellent deal on Orbitz.com for $107 on-sale and one should also be able to use the WELCOME10 coupon for an extra 10% off.

Finally, there's also a 4.5* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area for $99 on HOTWIRE with fitness, restaurant, business, internet. This could be the James, Conrad or Intercontinental. While it could definitely be the other two, the Intercontinental is the most common result.

In terms of waiting, there's no way to know if the Palmer will appear on HOTWIRE. The auto show is going on during this time period, which won't likely lead to hotels being sold out, but will result in the Loop area hotels (which are closer to McCormick Place) likely be more popular (and therefore a bit more expensive) than the hotels in the Michigan Ave. area to the North of the river.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE, Orbitz.com or PRICELINE links.
