shumart Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 My first time using priceline so I just wanted to check a couple things out..Were going to NYC 20/01/10 - 25/01/10 which is still over a month away, I assume the the closer to the time I try the cheaper I'm likely to get a room? When would you recomend trying from?Checking Priceline the following zones dont have 4* hotels in them so its these I add for rebid zones?BrooklynChelsea AreaLong Island CityMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaUpper East SideThe Sheraton or Hilton would be perfect and these seem to be going for around the $120 mark atm which is fine. Does this sound about right?
AaronJB Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Welcome to Betterbidding! :)It's best to start bidding when ready, as waiting until the last minute is a strategy that can go either way; if there's something going on during the dates of travel, rates could ramp up suddenly. Additionally, if rates are already low to begin with, there is going to be a realistic floor due to profit margins. For re-bids, those 5 zones do not have 4*'s, correct - what zones would you be interested in bidding on, and what would your budget be per night? In terms of bidding for a Midtown 4*, I'd start at $105. While that may be a lowball bid, I don't think bidding - depending on the area - will take too much more than that to be accepted. Again, it would depend on the zone, though. One suggestion as a slight alternate would be a 4* in Times Square on HOTWIRE w/Suite, Fitness, Restaurant, Business, internet for $129. This would likely be the Doubletree TS Suites and would be a good choice both in terms of price and if you would be interested in a larger room. If you would like to try a new/fresh property, Ink48 (a new Kimpton boutique, which has not yet been reported on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE) is $151.25 on Orbitz.com, but coupon code WELCOME10 takes 10% off = $136 and change. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz.com links to start your purchase.
shumart Posted December 15, 2009 Author Report Posted December 15, 2009 Thanks for your advice, ended up getting the Royalton in MTW for $115/night.
AaronJB Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Congratulations on your success! Definitely one of the best NY wins recently; this is a fantastic price for this well-reviewed (and renovated not that long ago) NYC boutique hotel.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links for your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
