Rhine-and-Roses Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I have been trying to get a room in Paris for a few days, using the links on this page. I started bidding at $105 for Montparnasse area (hoping for Marriott Rive Gauche), bid up to $120, adding Opera East and West. I kept getting counteroffers for adding enough to equal $142 per night, but I don't want to go that high. It must be for the first zone, as it appeared even with the first bid.Bidding is for April 11-16. Any info anyone has on those dates would be great.I am also willing to consider other possibilities, however Hotwire Hotels I can ID at that time are all above my max, which is the $120. I realize that being work days, I may not get anything in the 4* category. If anyone has suggestions for 3*, I'd take them. I won't stay in Montmartre, would sleep in my car before I risked Gare du Nord, and La Defense is just too far out. (I'm driving in from the east.) I really want to concentrate on Montparnasse, Opera, Marais area, Eiffel Tower maybe. I want to avoid the tiny streets in the Latin Quarter with my big carI have even considered Charles de Gaulle and buying a carte orange for weekly metro travel, but I think that will have to be a last resort. This trip is for pleasure, not business, so it's on my dime.

Rhine-and-Roses Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 It hadn't even crossed my mind. I am not at all adverse to it, so I'll start trying. Thanks for the idea.
thereuare Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 You can look thru the following date combinations if you want to try splitting:4/11-4/164/11-4/154/12-4/164/11-4/144/13-4/16If the aboev are all rejected you coudl also try the following:4/11-4/134/14-4/16... but i probably wouldn't do so just yet as i'd prefer to get the majority of my dates settled before trying for just two nites. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck. Romelle Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 I looked at Expedia for a while. It shows rates by day. Sometimes your first(11) and last(16) dates are less expensive than the middle ones. The middle ones were pretty flat. I didn't look at all the offerings, but the highest difference I noted was $42. That does suggest bidding your middle dates first, and then bidding first and last at a lower rate. You will pay PL fees with each separate bid, but there might be enough difference to still have some savings. The airport hotels can work well for first and/or last nights, depending upon your flight times.Romelle"April in Paris" does sound pretty nice.
Rhine-and-Roses Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 Thanks for the advice. I'm still playing with it. Finding good rates at CDG, but still not sure I want to take the train in everyday. I'm driving to Paris, with a big car, so I was really hoping for the Marriott Rive Gauche, right off the peripherique, with a nice garage. I'm going to keep working on this until I get the price I want, or settle for CDG... I've tried a number of combinations w/o luck at $100-115.
