jmoye Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Hello All, I am going to a conference at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria from 2/25-2/28. I'd prefer to stay at that hotel, but for the right price, I can be flexible. Through Hilton's website I was able to find an advanced payment rate of 104 per night. . .I would like advice on whether or not I should attempt to bid for the general area in the hopes of getting something signifcantly cheaper (Approximately 70$ or less per night of comparable quality) and if so, what bidding strategy I should use! Thanks and of course I'll bid using the PRICELINE link :)
thereuare Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 I do think you have a chance at landing a 3.5* (or maybe even a 4*) at a $70 bid or less. To give it a try, did you want to try up to your limit at the 4* level first OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better hotel for these dates?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Thanks in advance for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. jmoye Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 I'd prefer the 3.5 option for less $$. . .thanks!
thereuare Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 At the 3.5* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* Alexandria...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $60, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Alexandria and re-bid zone2...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $70Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. jmoye Posted December 11, 2009 Author Report Posted December 11, 2009 Tried strategy mentioned above today, but no luck. .I've still got a few months to go, so I'll try again in a few days. . thanks for the info. .Should I consider splitting my bid? I was thinking that the Thursday night might be causing the trouble?
thereuare Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 HOTWIRE is currently offering a 4* hotel in the Alexandria-Old Town zone for $76 which appears to be a match for the Westin... would this work for your needs? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jmoye Posted January 5, 2010 Author Report Posted January 5, 2010 Just to close this out, the bidding strategy didn't work and I was able to book directly through Expedia for approximately 90$ (they had a buy 2 nights get the thrid free promotion that included free parking), it was worth the premium to me to stay in the actual hotel. Thanks for the advice! I will always use your links when I purchase a room.
AaronJB Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Thank you for closing the thread. Please use the site's Expedia.com link when making purchases. Additionally, if you didn't, coupon code 10NOV takes $10 off per night for most properties via Expedia.
HowardDuPuis Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 At the 3.5* level you have TWO re-bid zones. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.I read the bidding strategy above for Alexandria, and followed the link that describes the bidding strategy in more detail. To me, the bidding strategy above is a little different from the that described in the link Priceline Re-Bidding Explained(which is the way I have been doing it). The bidding strategy above says:Select 3.5* Alexandria...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $60, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Alexandria and re-bid zone2...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $70In effect, the strategy above says you can close browser and re-use the same free rebidding zones more than once (meaning the zone with 2 stars, and none above, purposely combined with the zone you really want that has 4 stars). That is, bo back to re-bidding zone 1 more than once. Is there a limit to the number of times you can close, re-open, and use free rebid in zone 1 within 24 hours? It seems like I have tried this accidentally (forgetting that I had already used that particular free rebid zone), even after closing browser and re-opening, and it told me it was not eligible for bidding again until 24 hours had passed. Can you clarify? Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 You can't simply close the browser and make the same bid again... in the bidding strategy above each bid is a unique combination of zones. At no time are the same zone(s), or a subset of zone(s) previously bid, made, which is why all of the bids above are acceptable. If you're bidding for a current stay please start a NEW TOPIC and we'll provide more specific details pertaining to your own stay in that thread. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
