Hi,

I'm traveling to Red Bank on December 19th. I am looking at the cheapest hotel in the area and it says $41 (1 star economy). I checked old threads but I wasn't able to find anyone staying in this hotel. Please help me identify this hotel and also if I can get help bidding that would be great (first time for PRICELINE - last time I stayed in this area I used HOTWIRE.).

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

thanks for your response. I am looking at the PRICELINE page but it doesn't have the list of amenities. It just says "Median retail price for a 1 star hotel in the area selected is $41." I don't have any more info.

Nobody has yet reported a 1* hotel received in this zone, but the Comfort Inn would be at least one possibility in this zone.

As a general rule, we would typically advise against the lowest rated star rated hotels... while there may some hotels at this star rating which you find acceptable, there may be others which are not, and with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you can't choose which type you will get :)

Usually I stay in hostels so I am not too picky about hotels I stay. There are a few things to consider. I don't drive so I prefer staying in a hotel closer to the Red Bank train station. Because even if I find a cheap hotel if it's far from the station I will end up paying more for a cab. So I checked priceline again and if I pick 3 stars in the area the rate is $89. Then I chcked this forum for the list of hotels in the area and it says:

Tinton Falls (Red Bank - Middletown)

3* Courtyard Lincroft Red Bank

also checked priceline's list of the hotel (for regular booking) and the same hotel is listed as $89.. does ithat mean it's pretty safe to think that's the hotel they are offering? I only picked Red Bank area, not surrounding.

If so it's not far from the train station so I wouldn't mind staying in the hotel.

Next question is how much I should bid for this...

Thank you so much for your help!

No, i wouldn't make that assumption... you could receive a hotel anywhere in the shaded boundaries of the zone. You can't target a specific hotel with PRICELINE, you have a better chance of doing it with HOTWIRE, but there are still no guarantees.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Hi,

I guess I am not a good game player! I needed to start planning so I went ahead and bid - first bid was $45, selected only Red Bank area. 3*. my bid was not accepted, and I didn't want to wait till tomorrow so I just added $13 (=$58) and it was accepted.

Courtyard By Marriott Lincroft Red Bank

my bid $58.00

fees and taxes: $16.37

total: $74.37

I am relieved since this was the hotel I was hoping. the price could be a bit lower but I will just eat bread and milk while I'm staying there.

Thanks for your help and advice. I used the link on this board for PRICELINE. I will be back again... :)
