Mickie Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Hi there,I'm searching for a 4* hotel in New York for the period 03-24-'10 till 03-28-'10 in one of the following areas:- Midtown East district- Midtown West district- Time Square/Theatre disctrict- Central Park South districtI'm searching for 4 rooms and my maximum amount to spent is $145 per room per night. Cause I'm quiet new to this, my question is if it's realistic to think that I can find 4 rooms with 4* in those districts within my maximum amount?Other questions: End of March is still 3 months away, does this influence my change of getting lucky? And is it harder to get 4 rooms agains a good rate than it is for let's say 2 rooms? Thanks for helping me!!
AaronJB Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Welcome to Betterbidding! :)How many are going to be in each room? I ask because PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy (1 bed.) With NYC, I'd start looking in advance and not wait until the last minute, as if there's something going on (a convention), rates could rise rapidly between now and then.Whether or not 2 is easier to get than 4 depends on the traffic on the dates. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
Mickie Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 Thanks for your reply! There are going to be 2 people in each of the 4 rooms. It's no problem that every room has only 1 bed in it!Can you please provide me with some information if it's realistic to think that I can find 4* hotelrooms in those districs for that specific date for the maximum rate of $145 per room per night? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 I think it's realistic. I'd start off with a bid of $125 for a 4* in any of the four areas, although that may be too low (but is still within the realm of possibility and worth trying) and then work higher by $5's. You could also use re-bidding (see link), or simply work at it day-by-day. However, I think $145 or somewhat less is probably going to be realistic, if the retail prices I'm seeing are any indication. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
Mickie Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 Hello,This is my first time trying to book a hotel for NY with Priceline/HotwireI'm trying to book a hotel for 8 persons (4 rooms) for the period of 24 March 2010 till 28 March 2010.I can see on Hotwire that there is a 3,5* hotel in Mid Town East for $129 a night per room. I see that the amentities are:- Fitness- Restaurant- Business- High Speed Internet AccessI checked your forum and I conluded that the hotel could be:1) The Roosevelt hotel (which I prefer!)2) The Tudor Hotel at the UN building3) The Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel (which is a 4* now according to the forum)I can also see at Hotwire that the hotel has been rated and reviewed more than 1540 times on Tripadvisor. The only hotel (of the three above) who had more than 1540 reviews is the Roosevelt hotel. Roosevelt Hotel = 1550 reviews on TATudor Hotel = 367 reviews on TADoubletree Metropolitan = 804 reviews on TAAgain, I really want to stay in the Roosevelt Hotel; can I take the number of reviews in account in making my choice and taking the risk that the hotel they mean is the Roosevelt hotel? Thanks for your help!Mick
AaronJB Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Good evening and Happy Holidays! :)Nice to see the amount of reviews for the tripadvisor ratings showing again, I haven't seen that lately. In this case, I would agree that this is likely the Roosevelt. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links and let us know how it goes.
Mickie Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks for your quick reply and of good holidays for you too!So if I understand it correctly the number of reviews of Tripadvisor wasn't available on Hotwire for some time? But it can be taken in account when we are identifying the hotels?Just checking with you guys, because I don't want to hit the Tudor Hotel :-)As I understand this forum and you, the chances of getting the Roosevelt are pretty high? Thanks again! I really love this forum, it helps beginners a lot!! Of course I will use the link provided by this site!
AaronJB Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 The chances of the Roosevelt are quite good, given the amount of reviews on the TA rating.Tripadvisor ratings appear randomly (on some listings and not others), but there seem to be periods of time here-and-there where I don't see them at all.) I haven't seen the amount of reviews listed with the tripadvisor rating (as it is here) for a while (it has been just the rating lately when the TA rating does appear.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
Mickie Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 Ok, thanks for making things clear!Final check...if the amount/number of ratings of TA appear in a Hotwire deal (is this specific case more than 1550 reviews), this number is really connected to the hotel that is behind the Hotwire deal? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 It is not a "real-time" number, but a recent update. As mentioned above, though, the other 2 hotels that have been reported with this amenity set have less reviews.
