Nix Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Hi, I am looking to stay in New York this March between the 12th and 18th (6 nights). I read that it is hard to get a priceline bid excepted in NYC for longer then 3 nights. As a first time bidder I just need to get an idea of where to start the bidding and how common it is to split a stay into 2 bids? Ideally I would like to stay in the Midtown, Central Park area although I am more then happy go to lower Manhattan like Tribeca. Thanks
AaronJB Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Good morning and Welcome to Betterbidding! :)Difficulty for a longer stay in NYC depends on how busy the time period is; while March has a few busier periods, it's normally not too bad as NYC goes. I would definitely start your bidding for the whole period; if bidding continues to go higher and is not accepted, then splitting your stay may be an option to consider. What would be your max budget per night, and which PRICELINE zones are you interested in? Let us know and then we can proceed from there with further tips/ideas. :)Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 In addition to the info that AaronJB mentions above, please also let us know your desired star rating. If you're seeking a hotel less than 4*, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive property at your minimum star rating? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Nix Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 Wow thanks for the quick reply. Ideally I would like to stay in a hotel that is 3-4 stars but am more then happy to stay in a Holiday Inn or similar as I notice some of them are listed as 2-3 stars. The budget would I guess be up to $140 per night but is that realistic? Looking at areas it would be one of the following:Central Park SouthEmpire State Building AreaMadison SquareMidtown EastMidtown WestI know that seems quick a broad selection but any of those would be ideal.
thereuare Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 A $140 bid price should be doable in the 3-4* range... may come up a little short for a 4* hotel, but something at 3* or 3.5* shouldn't be a problem at this point in time. If you're talking $140 'all-in' (including taxes and fees) that will likely be a bit tougher as you're then only looking at a maximum bid for ~$115/nite.To confirm, you're not interested in the Times Square zone?Let us know if you'd like to start by trying for a 4* hotel in the zones above (and if you want to include Times Square in your bidding or not) OR if you have some other approach you're considering... we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Nix Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 Hi,I was reading through the site and came across the following winning priceline bid strategy. So thought let me use that as it is exactly what I am looking for.My winning bid was for $112 before taxes etc and I ended up in the Thirty Thirty Hotel right by the Empire State Building. Checked on their website and I know they are slightly marked up but the prices were $249-$349. Dates of stay are 4 nights, 12th of March to the 16th.And I used the PRICELINE links provided on the site. Nice one. :)
AaronJB Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Congrats on your success! :)Very, very nice deal for this 3* property, especially in comparison to regular rate.Using the site's PRICELINE link is greatly appreciated.Enjoy your stay.
