Priceline Biding help for NYC 12/19/09 and 12/20/09- 4*

We were hoping to bid for a 4* in

Central Park South

Midtown East

Times Square - Theatre District

I'm not sure during this time of year what to expect to pay for a 4* hotel. We would like to stay under $250 a night but of course would love to pay less than $200 is this realistic? Can you help with the steps as fair as dollar amounts we should start bidding on Priceline and what is a realistic amount we should expect to pay. One last questions, out of the 3 locations, from your experience which area are we most likely to get the nicest hotel? We are not tied to one location out of these 3 we just want a nicer upscale hotel. Any help would be wonderful!

Thank you!!

Welcome to Betterbidding! :)

While MTE is generally the best price/value option in terms of bidding in Midtown, but there appears to be something happening in MTE on these dates, as 3 main 4*'s - the Grand Hyatt, W and Intercontinental Barclay - are all showing sold out (and the Omni is showing a very high rate.) HOTWIRE is also not showing any 4*'s in MTE.

Otherwise, 4*'s in both TS and CPS are showing either sold out (in some cases) or quite high rates. You could try a bid of $225 for a 4* in either of these areas, but if that is not accepted, I think there's a likelihood that a bid will take $250+.

A 4* in the Empire State Building area is showing for $237 on HOTWIRE, and my guess is that this may be the Roger Williams. In terms of that hotel, however, it's $263.19 on Orbitz.com (on sale 20% off), but if you use coupon code WELCOME10 that takes an extra 10% off = $236 and change.

Additionally, the Night Hotel in Midtown - while interestingly and rather wildly decorated, is a pretty good deal at $229 (welcome10 coupon code for an extra 10% off) and offers free breakfast on Orbitz. That is a 3.5* that has never been seen on either HOTWIRE or PRICELINE.

HOTWIRE is showing a 3.5* in TS for $180, but I'm guessing that may be the Stay Hotel, which is otherwise $189.

Overall, I think a 4* in any of the mentioned zones (MTE, CPS, TS) is going to likely take $250+ if $225 is not accepted. However, if you are willing to stay in the ESB area, the Roger Williams is an option, and Night is a rather interesting looking property (and is one of the few that offers breakfast.)

You could also bid on 3.5* as well.
