jaydarl Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 Now in Austin. Here is my review of the above hotel. But first let me tell a too long story. I went against my better judgment and asked my wife to choose between a 2.5*/$44 or 3*/$59 hotel. Well, I am a 2.5* guy. These hotels usually have good cable, free breakfast, free wireless, microwave, fridge and offten times suites. I have found 3* and above to generally be old school "traditional" hotels with none of the above amenities. When I travel on my own I always choose 2* or 2.5* on Hotwire with generally good success. In other words, no crack motels. However, one time on a trip to Nashville the 2.5* hotel that I choose from Hotwire turned out to be a 1* quality motel. It was not quite a crack motel but it was not pleasant stay, nowhere near the quality of other 2.5* Hotwire rating hotels. Well, it just so happened that this was a trip I took with my wife who is somewhat picky when it come to hotels. I had to continually tell my wife that Hotwire had the hotel rated at 2.5* and I proceeded to tell her about all the other fine 2.5* Hotwire hotels we had stayed in. Still, she has never let me live that Nashville motel down. Now whenever I order off of Hotwire my wife insists on getting a 3* and above hotel. 3* and above hotels are fine and dandy but often times, like I mentioned above, they lack or charge for amenities many of us have come to expect. Well, this Holiday Inn fall into that category. Wireless unavailable (wired is free, but I'm stuck to the desk. No fridge, no microwave, limited cable tv, no sofa or loveseat, no free breakfast. In other words none of the stuff I have come to expect from the 2.5* hotels I frequent. Now, technically nothing is wrong with the hotel. Spartan but clean room, friendly desk and maintenance staff, good location, but nothing else. I dreaded it when I found that I had "won" a Holiday Inn because I knew none of the perks come with Holiday Inn. That's all for now, I may add some further info later.
