Hi,

I am trying to find a hotel since last week on Priceline for one night 12/5-6/09 no lower than 3 stars all over the city except upper west side/harlem - went up to $215 and no rooms. What is a good price at this point to start again? I thought I would focus on downtown and it would be easier and cheaper?? please it's a day of shopping to celebrate our birthdays!

This is one of the most expensive weekends in the city and i'm guessing at the moment you'll need to be closer to $300 than $200 to be successful for a 3* hotel in the city. As well, some hotels may have a two nite minimum given the high demand, which may be lowering your availability.

How will you be arriving to the city?

I am driving, I only live in NJ. If I need to go up as far as $300 I will and am flexible with the areas downtown. I go all over Soho, Tribeca, Village so which area do you think I have the best shot at a nice safe hotel? Thanks...

Why not bid (strategically) all the zones you're willing to accept and let the one with the lowest threshold accept your bid?

If you let us know which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Please confirm if you're goal is the least expensive 3* or better in any of your acceptable zones OR if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel. Also, please indicate when you last bid up to $215 for all acceptable zones at the 3* level.

Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Hi,

Thanks for the help... I started in zones 2,5,6,7,8,9,10 & 11 for 2 weeks upt to $215 this past Sunday I changed my search to zones 3 & 4 and am now up to $225 for 3 stars. They say it is going to rain and snow on Saturday and was now thinking maybe I should just wait until Friday being that others might cancel their reservations based on weather and then the hotels would want to book? I am willing to chance it because I have a place to sleep if I become desperate. What would you do??

What are the amenity icons showing in the listing?

Additionally, the Fitzpatrick Grand Central (a property that has never been reported on either PRICELINE or HOTWIRE) - which is in Midtown East - is showing for $299 on Expedia.com. That would be a better location and price.

Please use the site's Expedia.com link if the Fitzpatrick would be of interest.

Happy to help and thank you for the compliment about the site! :) Personally, while the Fitzpatrick is not a discounted rate, it's a better location than the CQ and may be worth considering, despite lack of discount. I'd continue bidding higher on PRICELINE in the meantime, but if your bids go much higher and continue to not be accepted, the Fitzpatrick option is there.

Please let us know what you decide or feel free to ask if you have further questions. :)
