tnvols77 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I have bid $140 for a 4*, 3 1/2 * and now 3* in TS, MTW, MTE, CPS and MSG area's. I have have no luck. Anyone know what I should raise my bid too? I don't want to go less that a 3*. FWIWWe are bidding on 2 rooms. We could combine our money and stay in a 2 bedroom suite if we could save some money. Any suggestions?
AaronJB Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Welcome to Betterbidding! :)These are quite pricey dates, and unfortunately, $140 is not going to be enough for a 3*. What would be your max budget per night, and how many in your party? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
tnvols77 Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 There are 2 couples. 4 people total. The last 4 years we have got 4 star hotels for around $80 a night. But the difference is this year we are going the 2nd to last weekend before Christmas and the last 4 years we have went the last weekend before Christmas. We might have to cancel our trip. We can't pay $1000 for each of the hotel rooms for 4 nights. Thats crazy.
thereuare Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 The last 4 years we have got 4 star hotels for around $80 a night. In NYC?? That sounds a bit low than we've seen, even for the weekend before Christmas. As you've been a member here for over 2 years, it would be appreciated if you began to share your wins with the board so that the information can best help other users... perhaps your $80 wins could have helped other users with their own stays :) How about staying outside of NYC in area that is 'commutable' to the city? HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in Hoboken for your dates for $159/nite which would likely land you close to a PATH station which would have you in the city in about 15 minutes.Thoughts? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. tnvols77 Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 We have twin 11 month old babies we will be taking on the trip with us. So there is actually 4 adults (2 couples) and our twins. If we stay outside the city would the subway be a place that we would want our babies at after dark? I have been thinking about an apartment for the 4 nights we are there instead. Or maybe a hotel with 2 bedrooms that we could split the rent with the other couple.Sorry I didn't share the win last year. But it was a Sheraton Manahaton for $80 bid.
AaronJB Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 GTA Hotels.com has the well-reviewed Beekman Tower in Midtown East for $375 per night for a 1BR Suite (this is when trying to search for both parties in the same room.)Please use the site's link to GTA Hotels.com if this idea is of interest.
thereuare Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 If we stay outside the city would the subway be a place that we would want our babies at after dark?I assume you're refering to the PATH train that i referenced above? If so, from a safety perspective, i wouldn't have any concerns with the PATH train (which is separate/different from NYC's subway system)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. tnvols77 Posted March 7, 2010 Author Report Posted March 7, 2010 UPDATEWe found a 2 bedroom apt rented like a hotel would be rented and paid nightly. It was a 3 bedroom and we paid $300 per night. We wouldn't do it again. Next time we will definately get a hotel earlier in the city. Thanks for all your help.
AaronJB Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks for closing the thread. Sorry to hear that the apartment stay did not work out well.
