dsr Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I would like to stay in a 4 star in NYC dec. 26-29. what is my bidding strategy?also, we are two adults with one child, will most hotels provide 2 queen beds?
AaronJB Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Good evening.PRICELINE does not guarantee 2 beds, but this is especially true in NYC, where rooms are often quite small and rooms with 2 beds are often priced at a premium. If you need to guarantee 2 beds (or 1 + sofabed), I'd instead suggest HOTWIRE.What would be your budget per night? What areas are you interested in staying? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
dsr Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Now that I think about it, I realize that I did Priceline last year, for the same time, and did end up getting two queens, I guess you're telling me that was dumb luck and I shouldn't count on it again? I believe we were at the Tudor something near grand central station.I'd like theatre district, or midtown, or chesea.I'm realizing the 4 stars are out of my budget, I'd like to end up no higher than 200 per night including taxes. can I do that with a 3.5 or do I need to go to a 3?when I put in 2 adults and 1 kid on hotwire, I get very few hits, will more inventory open up as the month goes on or should I be booking now?
thereuare Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 The issue is that many NYC hotels only have one bed and don't have any additional space to accomodate a rollaway, so searching for triple occupancy (in NYC in particular) greatly limits the number of hotels offered. While a hotel may have some rooms which can accomodate triple occupancy, they may not want to commit such a room (given the limited number of them at a given property) to a room booked at a very deep discount. If you search HOTWIRE for your dates, 2adults/1child, is there anything that appears within your budget? Are you dates firm? If you're able to come a week earlier (~12/19-12/22) you may find rates a little cheaper as well. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you find above when searching HOTWIRE and we'll take it from there. dsr Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 I get one hit in my price range on hotwire3 star downtown - soho hotelrestaurant, business center, internetrecommended by 85%186 per niteunfortunately, my dates aren't flexible. do you think this is as good as it gets?
thereuare Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Nobody can predict how many rooms the hotel will book in the coming weeks nor how many cancellations they get, so can't ever say if this is as good as it will get, if pricing will improve, or get worse. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option... or would you have an interest in staying in Hoboken-Jersey City which is right across the river and has an easy 'commute' into the city via PATH train? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Please keep all posts for this stay in this thread, if you ultimately use HOTWIRE we'll move this the entire thread to that section of the board.Best guess is that the hotel above is the Wyndham Wingate, but i'm not currently seeing this property offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates and 2adults/1child... are you still seeing this on your own HOTWIRE search? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
