psl25201 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks in advance for any advice that you all can offer.I am looking for a hotel on the Magnificent Mile for the dates above. There will be two of us and the only truly important things are at least a queen/king bed and something around $65-70 a night. Other things like free breakfast, free internet are a plus but not necessary. Is it possible to get a 4+ star hotel for this price? Thanks
thereuare Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! It's possible to get a 4* hotel for the rate(s) you posted, but bed type (queen/king) is not guaranteed... you can call the hotel after your purchase and ask them to make note of a request, but it's just a request and the hotel may not be able, or willing, to accomodate you request. As well, you mention on the Mag Mile, but note that the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE zones extend to the east/west of Michigan Ave, are you willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone(s)?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 There's a 3.5* in the NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast area on HOTWIRE.com w/pool, fitness, restaurant, business, internet for $69 (the price you see may differ slightly.) My guess is that this may be the Hilton Suites.Regular rates are already on the low side for Chicago for these dates, so discounts probably aren't going to be steep off the already lower rates, but the above seems like a good deal to me in terms of what HOTWIRE is offering in this price range. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
psl25201 Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks for the assistance thus far and the suggestion on the bed size. This is what I'm getting back on Hotwire - - 3.5 Star, with Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access ($69/night or $245 total with tax)- 4 Star, with Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access ($75/night opr $268 total with tax)- 4.5 Star, with Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access ($94/night or $330 total with tax)Any idea what these hotels might be? Also, you are correct in that there are some pretty good hotel rates right now in Chicago. For example, via Orbitz, I can get the following hotels, all with a guaranteed king bed and some with free WiFi...- Hyatt Regency (Total w/ tax = $243)- Hilton Garden Inn (Total w/tax = $234)The above all include a coupon for $40 off a hotel stay with Orbitz (AFFORB40).Thoughts?
AaronJB Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Are the listings you mention all in the Mag Mile-Streeterville area?Additionally, keep in mind that the Mag Mile-Streeterville area is the South half of the NMA area. The NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast area is the North half of the NMA area. The hotels in these two areas are not far apart. Also, coupon code FABSAVE10 takes 10% off each night on Orbitz, although AFFORB40 may be better in this situation given how low rates are. Please use the site's Orbitz, PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links.

I guess I am unfamiliar with NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast and just assumed that the Mag Mile-Streeterville would be a better choice. I am looking for something on Michigan avenue, but understand that some of these may just be a short walk from it.Thanks for the heads up on the other coupon. I'll give that a shot too.
AaronJB Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Essentially, the North Michigan Ave. area as a whole is in two parts on HOTWIRE; the NMA-WT-GC area is the upper half of the NMA area (which includes the Water Tower Mall and 900 N. Michigan Ave Mall, as well as the Oak Street Boutiques.)The Mag Mile-Streeterville area is the lower half of the NMA area, which includes quite a few stores and has the river as the South boundary. Both zones are right next to each other and the combined space of both zones is really not that major. Both zones would be fine to stay in, but if there is a NMA-WT-GC property of interest, those hotels are also right on North Michigan Ave, as well. The Mag Mile-Streeterville properties:4.5* - Intercontinental or Conrad (although likely the Intercontinental)4* - could possibly match the Hard Rock, Hyatt, Sheraton or Westin River North.3.5* likely the Doubletree.
