lc_teach Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Need hotel help for planning a bachelorette party to Chicago April 23-25. Would like to stay as close to Michigan Ave and the nightlife. Any suggestions? Should I wait to book? Will be booking two rooms and would like at least a 3*. Thanks!
thereuare Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! As far as when to make your purchase, see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.How many guests will there be in total? What is your maximum budget? (per room before taxes and fees) Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for these dates.Lastly, are you willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundary of any PRICELINE zone (NMA-River North i'm assuming is the mostly likely zone you're interested in) OR are you willing to pay a little more to have an educated guess as to the hotel you may receive (and therefore an educated guess as to the distance from Michigan Ave)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 I think in this case, while it may be more expensive, HOTWIRE is probably a better idea, as I'm guessing this would be more than a couple of people per room. Additionally, HOTWIRE is a better choice in this case, as there are some more nightlife-heavy areas (Gold Coast, River North) that one could potentially be closer to by using HOTWIRE. Again, it depends on budget and availability (and how many in your party), though. The properties in the River North/NMA area are all either right near or not a bad walk from Michigan Ave. However, if being right near nightlife is a primary requirement, then it would be a matter of trying to use HOTWIRE to get closer to some of the more nightlife-heavy areas.
lc_teach Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 We will be booking two rooms with a total of 8 people. I really would like to be in the Michigan Ave area so would be willing to pay a little more. I think HOTWIRE is probably our best option. I want at least a 3* but would go 4*, if needed. Thanks for the info and will definitely use your HOTWIRE link for my purchase.
AaronJB Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 What would be your desired budget per room/per night?
thereuare Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 If you search HOTWIRE for 2rooms/8adults does anything in the Mag Mile or NMA zones appear within your desired star rating and budget? Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases. lc_teach Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 Would like to spend no more than $150 per night for each room. I think we should be able to get something nice with that price.
AaronJB Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Rates are a little higher because this starts to get into the prime Spring season. Additionally, HOTWIRE rates also are going to be higher than otherwise due to extra person charges likely being figured into the total at most downtown properties when 4 people (in other words, a fee for each adult in the room after the first 2) are selected. When I search for 2 rooms/8 adults, I see a 3.5* in the NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast area w/: Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa for $165. This is likely the Hotel Indigo, which is right in the Gold Coast area. There's a lot of nightlife options nearby, a subway station around the corner and it's about a 3-5 minute walk to North Michigan Ave. However, in-between the hotel and North Michigan Ave. area are the Oak Street boutique stores (Barneys NY, etc.) and a number of restaurant options. Plus, if this is the Indigo - and it certainly would appear to be a match - that's a really cute hotel and a nice fit for the occasion. When searching for 2 rooms/8 adults for these dates on HOTWIRE, there's only 1 hotel at the 3.5* level and 1 at the 4* level, and both are over $160.Your other option would be the Swissotel, which is right on the river. It's a couple of blocks West to Michigan Ave. and then walk North over the bridge to the start of the Michigan Ave. area. This 4* is on sale for $179 at Orbitz.com, then coupon code FABSAVE10 takes 10% off each night = $161 and change. This would also be a mild walk to the State St. shopping area. The downside is that there's really nothing in the way of nightlife directly around the hotel, but the River North area would not be too bad a walk or taxi ride. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or Orbitz.com link to start your purchase.
AaronJB Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 So, the Swiss would be at the South end of the Michigan Ave. area, while the Indigo would be in the Gold Coast area, which is at the North end.
