Hotwire Hotel: 4* Las Vegas (near strip East) Westin

I am going to be attending a small convention that is being held at the Westin 3/20/2005 - 3/24/2005 (I'll be coming in a day early, so I'm looking for a room 3/19/2005 - 3/24/2005). Through the convention, I can get the rate of $129 / night + tax (and I have booked that rate for 3/20-3/24)...on hotwire, I believe I found the Westin for $96 / night + taxes and fees (for 3/19-3/24) . I say I believe I found it, 'cause it is listed as a '4* near strip east' with a casino, restaurant, pool, fitness room, his speed internet, and business center. Based on what I have read on this forum, the Westin is the only 4* in this area.

My question, what are the chances that the rate will go lower?? I tried bidding on priceline (4* on the strip) and was rejected up to $85. Would love some advice!

Thanks!

Merle

Rates thru the Opaque services are not typically that great in Las Vegas unless trying for the 5* level (see Las Vegas Priceline Exception for more of my thoughts).

Nobody knows if rates will go down... or up between now and your stay, it all depends upon how booking for the convention come in ahead or behind of anticipation.

Your current rejection via Priceline indicates that the current $96 thru HOTWIRE isn't too far off the mark. The savings looks to be about $125 or so over the 5 nites... it comes down to if this is a significant figure to you or not? If you'd blow that on a hand of blackjack or a roll of the dice then i'd probably hold off, but if $100+ is a significant amount of savings to you than i would take it now. Also to consider is what would happen if this hotel was no longer available in a few days/weeks? To make my long winded answer short:

What would make you feel worse... Booking now and seeing rates drop a few dollars per nite OR not booking now and then seeing this property disappear entirely?

If you really would be happy with any property and were looking for a strip hotel (where there are MANY) i would probably look further as rates at other properties seem inline with your convention rate, but if this is the property you want (and given that it is the convention location... how big is the convention?) i would probaby take the savings and not look back if this is your prefered property.

Let us know what you decide to do, if you decide to wait we'll continue to help you look for alternatives. If you do take it please use the HOTWIRE link above in this post to begin your purchase. <thanks!>

I clicked on the link you indicated and booked the hotel through Hotwire. In the end, I wanted to make sure I got the rate which is still $30 / night less than what I had gotten elsewhere (also, I wanted the charge on my '04 business account). Anywho, it WAS the Westin. Thanks for your help!
