Priceline Hotel: 5* Warsaw (rejected, doesn't make sense)

Bid this at $60 yesterday and $70 today. Kinda surprised that it didn't come through. Our price including tax and fees on the bid was almost $470. There are several top looking hotels in Warsaw that claim 5* ratings that have semi or non-refundable offerings on their own websites for $500 - $560 all in. Can't see any reason to stick with Priceline on this one. Plus their website wouldn't let me bid again after 24 hours and made me wait about 27 hours to rebid. Any advice besides rebidding higher here? I'm not inclined to give them more money.

Can't edit the title - the dates should be 12/29/09 - 01/04/09! Sorry.

Given the New Years Eve holiday, may hotels may feel that they'll be able to sellout on their own (and at full price) so little reason to offer the opaque suppliers rooms at a deeply discounted (or any discounted) price.

If you can find something that is acceptable and fully refundable, i would try that and continue PRICELINE and HOTWIRE in the weeks to come... if not, just take the best deal you can find.

Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

Both the Hilton and Sofitel in Warsaw seem highly rated and we can book them for $576 all in or less with breakfast included. However, these are non-refundable, so it would be nice to get feedback before we book one. The wife likes the Hilton Warsaw Hotel and Convention Centre at Grzybowska 63 best, I'm not sure one way or the other. I figure I better do something today with New Year's coming up. Any feedback on these or other hotels in Warsaw?

Guess my feedback is - why not make your wife happy?

PS - When bidding a span of days on PRICELINE, your bid has to be at least equal to the highest priced day to win. With New Year's Eve in your span, I suspect you would have to bid a LOT higher to win.

That $576 is probably less than just New Year's Eve in NYC.

Ah, you teach me something new! :) I wondered how Priceline dealt with differing daily rates. I had hoped it was smart enough to average them. Took your advice, the wife is happy, got breakfast with King room for 6 nights in Warsaw at the rate I mentioned.

A wise man to keep your wife happy, I think.

For future reference, when dealing with widely varying rates one can split one's bid into blocks of the low days and the high days. The problem of course is that you may well get different hotels when bidding that way.

You still got a excellent deal.
