jgruber Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Hi,I just found this site and I have to say everyone on here is wonderful. I'm looking for a 4 star in either Midtown west or times square for December 22-24. I'd prefer Times Square but I'd be just as happy with Midtown West. Basically, looking for the nicest hotel, is one of the zones cheaper than the other? These couple of days are usually slower, so I'm hoping I can get something a little cheaper than usual. What should I expect to get? Im guessing anywhere from $150-200? I've already read about the bidding stratagies in which you include zones that don't have 4* so I'm going to do that. Any help anyone would give me would be great. Also how much extra should I figure in addition to my bid to account for taxes/fees? Thank alot.
thereuare Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding... and thanks for the compliments on the site! :)Hotel tax in NYC is ~14.5% (ouch!) and figure the PRICELINE or HOTWIRE booking fee to be ~$6-7/nite. I think you'll be able to do better than the $150-$200 you're budgeting. If your goal is the least expensive 4* or better in either of the MTW or Times Square zones, i would proceed as follows:At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTW and Times Square...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $130, if rjeected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and Times Square and re-bid zone5...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $155Any questions feel free to ask (especially confirming your re-bid zones with the board if you're new to the concept)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
