Spent the week in Novato on business and wanted the last night in SF before flying out the next day. My bid went like this:

$60 Union Sq E & W - rejected

$65 Union Sq E & W - rejected

$70 Union Sq E & W - accepted

I knew it had been going for $70 so I tried low-balling. After taxes and fees, it came out to $88. That's a lot of fees! But I guess that's what you get for booking only 1 night. I was traveling with a co-worker, and he won on his first try at $70.

At check-in, the concierge knew we booked on Priceline, but didn't give us any attitude. In fact, I got a free upgrade with my Hyatt Gold card (which is where you start when you sign up with their program). I ended up getting a room on the 29th floor with a superb view. Everything else is pretty expensive - internet, local phone calls, etc... I guess they have to get you somewhere.

Thanks to BB. Great website.
