Aloha from Hawaii!

I am looking for a hotel in Manhattan preferably Midtown, Chelsea, Empire State, Madison Garden, Times Sq areas.

I am looking for 3.5* and UPwards of that.

Any thoughts on a initial bid? I was thinking of $120.

Mahalo (thank you) for your help!

Welcome to the site. :)

I think you could possibly squeak by with a 4* win in one of these areas for $120 on these dates. If not, I'd try $100 for a starting bid for a 3.5*; HOTWIRE already has a 3.5* in the Midtown Central zone (fitness, restaurant, internet - I'm guessing the Club Quarters) for $113 for these dates.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.

Did you want to try for a 4* first OR are you looking for the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?

Also, "midtown" isn't a PRICELINE zone, please let us know the zone(s) you're willing to accept by PRICELINE name, as well as your maximum bid, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

i will try to be a little more specific in what im looking for.

I would want a 3.5* or 4* and above off course if possible for between $120-$150.

the "zones" in NYC would be "Chelsea area, Downtown-Soho-Financial District, Empire State Building Area, Madison Square Garden-Convention Area, Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square-Theatre District"

appreciate all of your help again.

At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3.5* DT, ESB, MSG...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3.5* MTE, MTW, TS...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Thanks for the response.

I read the "re-bidding" thread but I am still a bit unsure as to what I am supposed to do.

If I bid 3.5* at DT, ESB, MSG my first bid is at $100...if I am rejected all I am doing is changing the price to $105 and then $110 etc until I am rejected at $1150? Do I need to change the "zone" as well?

You need to add a zone to your previous bids in order to bid again... this is where re-bidding comes into play.

So that we know where to start, do you understand the concept of re-bidding (ie- adding zones which only have the star level lower than you're willing to accept) but don't know how to determine the highest star rating available in each zone OR are you not understanding the concept at this point?

List each zone in NYC and the highest star rating available in each zone, using the following technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a PRICELINE page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

If you're confused by the above just post back an we'll break it down further for you.

What's the advantage of bidding first on DT, ESB, MSG; then bidding separately on MTE, MTW, TS, for same * and bid amounts? I'm new to priceline/hotwire hotel bidding and trying to understand the techniques. How is this better than bidding on all 6 zones together?

longhorn_mike,

It allows for more bidding opportunities in the same cycle... if all zones are bid at once, the next round of bidding (when the other zones are added) would be rejected as duplicate bids.

Here is the summary per request.

Unfortunately the bidding prices I decided on failed. I think it was a little too late and too busy a time so hotel prices were going up and bookings might have been solid for the hotels already.

Priceline gave me this weird message where it seemed to imply that if I raised my bid to roughly $170ish that I would probably win the bid.

All in all I think the price were in line with what was being offered on hotwire (probably the same hotel too). At least with Hotwire I knew what amenities and such I was getting.

I decided to use a different site to book a hotel where I got roughly the price I wanted.

Thanks again to everyone who responded.

THE END...PAU!
