JeremiahD Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 HiLanding in Newark from UK on Friday 4th December and looking for a 2/3* hotel for 4 nights to see New York for the first time and stay reasonably centrally. Have had a good look at the various message boards and realise that it is a busy time of the year but any further ideas would be most welcome. Thanks
AaronJB Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)What would be your budget per night for hotel? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 In NYC we usually recommending sticking with the higher star rated hotels, as while there may some lower rated properties which are acceptable to you, there may also be some which are not, and with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you don't get to choose which type you will get. :)With the above noted, did you want to try for a 3* hotel up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 2.5*, etc, etc OR are you are looking for the least expensive 2* or better for this stay?Which zones (by PRICELINE name) are you willing to accept? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. JeremiahD Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I want to try for a 3* and will probably keep raising the bidding if I use PRICELINE. I am willing to accept all zones in Manhatten.
AaronJB Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 As I noted in another thread regarding these dates, the 4* Embassy Suites Downtown is $309 for these dates on Orbitz.com, and coupon code FABSAVE10 takes another 10% off = $278.10. While I'd recommend starting lower for a bid for a 3* than that, the Embassy Suites (which would offer breakfast, larger room and evening reception) would be something to keep in mind if your bidding starts to get closer to that point.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Orbitz.com links.
thereuare Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 I am willing to accept all zones in Manhatten. Before accept any zone within Manhattan, i'd recommend not including the UWS and UES in your bidding as the northern part of these zones tend to get a bit less convenient then staying in midtown (or Downtown-Financial for that matter)Also, given the $278 Embassy Suites rate, do you want to adjust your maximum bid downward?Let us know regarding the zones and maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. JeremiahD Posted November 22, 2009 Author Report Posted November 22, 2009 Thanks for all the advice. I think I now have to decide whether to go for the Embassy Suite(which has gone up a bit) and know where I am going to stay or steadily push up the bidding on PRICELINE and hope I get somewhere cheaper.
AaronJB Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 There's also the 4* Club Quarters World Trade Center (which appears to be a brand new property) for $297 - 10% using the FABSAVE10 coupon code.
JeremiahD Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 Again thanks for all your help. Unfortunately my mother has fallen very ill so I have had to postpone my trip until later next year
AaronJB Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Sorry to hear that! :) I wish her a speedy recovery and hope everything is okay!
