Hotwire has a 3.5 star Chicago Loop hotel for $79 on Dec 31-jan1.

Fitness center, restaurant(s), laundry, High speed internet is all the ammenities.

any ideas anyone?

This would likely be the Club Quarters Loop.

Personally, I'd rather try bidding on PRICELINE for a 4* in the River North/NMA area or a 4* Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park hotel for $79 than take the Club Quarters. If $79 isn't accepted for a 4* in either area (and it may not be, but it's worth a try), then you could try bidding for a 3.5* River North/NMA (ONLY in River North/NMA, not in the MP/Loop/Grant Park zone.) If that's not accepted either, you could then consider the CQ.

The Club Quarters Loop isn't a bad hotel, it's just that I would recommend trying other options first before accepting that.
