Priceline Hotel: splitting dates ??

someone is another post mentioned a strategy of splitting dates to get a better deal. could someone explain this.

I am going to be in New York from 11th December to 28th December and I know the first few days are very expensive so advice on a strategy would be appreciated (although I guess if savings are not substantial, I would not want to change hotels)

You must be willing to change hotel If you're going to use PRICELINE. There's noting that guarantee that you will get the same hotel for the 2 diffrent sets of dates. Please read this link: Splitting your Priceline Bid

If you would like to get help with a bidding strategy so please post your budget/night, zone(s) you're willing to stay in and the *rating for the hotel.

Do any of the hotels on offer have shared bathrooms? I can;t do the shared bathroom thing so would want a private bathroom guaranteed.

Shared bathrooms is mostly seen in lower rated hotel. Let us know your preference when it comes to star rating.

No hotels with shared bathrooms that I am aware of have been reported to the site. However, I think if one were to start bidding for a 1* or 2* in the city (especially 1*), some of those hotels may come into play, which is why bidding under 2.5* in the city is generally not recommended.

With a 17 day time frame, you may have to switch on more than one occasion, depending on your budget. With a stay that long, I think it would be a matter of taking the whole budget into mind and then figuring how best to divide it.

It's a little different regarding HOTWIRE, as with that service, one can simply search and get an idea of chunks of time that are similarly priced. Are you willing to split your stay into more than 2 parts? Again, what would be your budget per night?

i would prefer no more than 2 parts/. My budget is $150 to $180

The 3.5* MTE could be a few different hotels: Tudor at the UN, Doubletree Met or Roosevelt.

This would be a little over your max, but provide a 4* w/breakfast for part of the time.

12/11-20: Tudor Hotel at the UN - $215.99 via Orbitz - 10% off per night using coupon code FABSAVE10 = $194.40

12/20-28: 4* HOTWIRE in the ESB area w/boutique, breakfast, restaurant, business and internet. $166. This would likely be the Morgans Hotel.

Averaging all that would be about $182 per night, but, as mentioned, at least you would get breakfast every day for the second half.

Or:

12/11-20: Wyndham Garden Chelsea: $188.75 via Orbitz - 10% using coupon code FABSAVE10 = approx. $169.88 per night.

12/20-28: 4* HOTWIRE in the ESB area w/boutique, breakfast, restaurant, business and internet. $166. This would likely be the Morgans Hotel.

There's probably more possible combinations, but I thought either of these would be appealing given the breakfast on the second half.
