Priceline Hotel: Looking for hotel room in NYC 12/12 - 1 night

Hi there. I just found your site and saw that there were many people who were able to get a 4* hotel on Priceline in the $150 range. I read about your bidding strategy and re-bidding strategy and tried but with no luck. I prefer Downtown, Empire State, Midtown East or Central Park South.

I bid the following: Downtown / Empire State / Central Park South / Midtown East for $150

That didnt work so I added MSG and bid at $165

That didnt work so I added Midtown West and Chelsea and bit at $170

Any recommendations of what I could do? I am hoping to stay closer to the $150-$175 range. Any help / recommendations would be appreciated.

Oh and I used your PRICELINE link to do my bidding.

I'm just a member, but thought I'd chime in here. Hate to be the "bearer of bad tidings" but things are going to be difficult for you on this trip. I looked at Hotwire, and all the New York 4* areas for your date were over $300. Ouch. Even the 3*s were over $200. And ouch again. One can usually do a little better bidding via Priceline, but probably not down to the $150 - $175 level you mention.

Any wild chance you could make an airport hotel work for you? There the 3*s were under $100 (HW didn't mention any 4*s). JFK, LGA and EWR.

What is the purpose of this stay? Are you flying (which airport), driving (from where), bus (port authority or different location) or taking the train (metro north or amtrak) into the city? The airport hotels in this area usually don't work that well as a new york city 'substitute' but depending upon where you'll be arriving in the city there are other nearby zones which you might be able to make work for your plans.
