aswebdesign Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 looking for something on North michigan ave for 11/14. I see a 4 star for $108, i know from amenities this is prob allerton/drake/knickerbocker/westin. BUT does the $108 include all taxes? i can't find any info on that. I know when I bid on priceline, it does NOT ever include taxes. If it doesnt include taxes, i think i would have a better price by going with priceline.
AaronJB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)PRICELINE and HOTWIRE both have to include hotel tax. During the check-out process, tax is displayed on HOTWIRE.You could certainly do better via PRICELINE on this date, but you would have to be flexible and willing to accept any of the properties in the area. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
AaronJB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Additionally, I'd rather recommend the 4.5* Mag Mile/Streeterville for $94, which is likely the Intercontinental. The Mag Mile area is essentially the South half of the NMA shopping area.

AaronJB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 The Intercontinental is a very, very nice hotel, with a pretty fascinating history. Great location right on Michigan Ave., near the river. As I note with all city hotels in Chicago and especially in NYC, keep in mind with Tripadvisor that many of those people are paying full price and may have differing expectations. It's hard to find a hotel in Chicago that has consistently outstanding reviews.Intercontinental history and further description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterContinental_Chicago

AaronJB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Yep. When you bid on PRICELINE, tax is also included during check-out. However, PRICELINE rates are usually cheaper than HOTWIRE rates (although with HOTWIRE at least one can make an educated guess as to which hotels may be showing.)
aswebdesign Posted November 13, 2009 Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 I got the intercontinental. Total $114.60. You may edit the title of this post to reflect what I won.oh, and got any tips on where to park? to avoid the hotel's lot $$$
AaronJB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Congrats on your success! That's really a wonderful price for the Intercontinental. Definitely a great hotel, and certainly a more "unique" property - definitely check out the pool, which was one of the first pools built on a higher floor. When it was built in 1929, it was considered a feat of engineering, and has been preserved very well since.Parking at Navy Pier is about a 8-12 minute walk East of the hotel, although there are some scattered lots between the Intercontinental and Navy Pier that may offer similar rates.Daily Parking at Navy Pier (within reasonable walking distance to many Michigan Ave. properties)Visit Navy Pier - Getting Here - ParkingStandard Parking operates on-site parking garages accommodating 1,600 cars at Navy Pier.Current rates:Monday through Thursday - a flat rate of $20.00 per day*Friday through Sunday - a flat rate of $24.00 per day*Holidays - a flat $24 fee per day*For more information, contact Standard Parking directly at 312-595-5072.*Prices Subject to Change._____________________________________________________________________________I've never parked at this lot, but it does have a cheap weekend rate that's very popular (although the rate is almost certainly more now than the $6 listed below, you'd have to call)This lot would be about a 10-12 minute walk West of the hotel.Sterling Self-Park (rates may have changed; call ahead - within reasonable walking distance to River North hotels)The Sterling Self-Park Garage (located between Clark and LaSalle on Kinzie)312.341.3463$24 per dayIn by 7 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $14In by 9 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $18 per dayAfter 3 p.m. and weekends - $6_____________________________________________________________________________Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE link.Enjoy your stay.
aswebdesign Posted November 13, 2009 Author Report Posted November 13, 2009 thank you aaron! yes i did use the site's HOTWIRE link. this is a great resource and you are a very helpful person.
AaronJB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Happy to help! :) Additionally, I highly recommend Fox and Obel Gourmet Market and Cafe (fox-obel.com), which is sort of like Chicago's version of NYC's Dean and Deluca. That's a few blocks due East of the hotel (on the way to Navy Pier) on the corner of Illinois and McClurg.
