nononsene42 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Today I bid on 4 star hotels in San Juan. My bid of $152.00 was accepted for Feb.27,2010. They gave me a "resort" Marriott San Juan Resort And Stellaris Casino. If I had wanted a resort I would have bid on Resorts and put in a lower bid than 152! I called Priceline and of course was told they won't and can't cancel a bid. They said this resort was equal or higher than a 4 star. I wonder if that is the case why the 4 star hotels are priced so much higher? So, in the future I know there is no point to bid on a 4 star, I may as well bid on a resort and be happy with what I get it for. :)

Romelle Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I believe Priceline considers Resorts higher than 4* hotels, so you got an "upgrade". Prices for the Resorts do tend to be higher than those for the 4*s. Sorry you got an unpleasant surprise. Usually upgrades are good news.Romelle

nononsene42 Posted November 9, 2009 Author Report Posted November 9, 2009 When searching I looked for 4 star and saw that there were only 2. There is the Conrad listed on Priceline for $239.00 and La Concha $339.00.The Marriott San Juan Resort And Stellaris Casino shows a price of $209.00.I saw where you could bid on Resorts but wanted to go for the 4 star.I'm new to this, this is my 2nds transaction with Priceline and I did not realize that even though I was looking at 4 star hotels they could slip in a resort.I've learned my lesson. I will never bid on a 4 star again. I think it is a easy way for them to get bids for resorts. They booked me with the lowest price resort they had available. If I had bid the same amount just on resorts I may have got a nicer resort if price is an indication of quality. The price is better than booking direct, but I don't appreciate the "bait and switch."They need to keep resorts separate and if someone wants to bid on them that is their choice.Yes, I should have read all the fine print and not looked at what was flashed in front of me. 4 stars.Thank you for sharing your result with the board!Sorry to see that you don't like the upgrade. yellowdog Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 nononsene42To be very honset. We don't see so many upgrades from 4* to Resort. PRICELINE is not so easy when you start. And like you're saying. it's allways good to read the fine print or ask the board for help.We hope you get a nice stay anyway.Yellowdog.

I'm sure we will have a great stay and today I learned about hotels and resorts:) Thank you for your offer of help. Betterbidding has alrady been a great help to me!
AaronJB Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 PRICELINE can "upgrade" a bid at any time; while this is usually a positive thing, there are definitely cases where it turned out to be a downer. Glad you are still looking forward to your stay. :)
