marcelo_cr Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Thanks Yellowdog, I'll keep looking for other opportunities. Do you know how much time before the trip is ideal to find deals at Hotwire. I don't know if when its closer to trip's date we find better deals.
AaronJB Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 It's never a good idea to gamble entirely on hotel prices going down closer to the date, as there have been plenty of instances of people who I've helped who have chosen to wait and then found - months later - that the prices went up. There have been plenty of people who have benefited by waiting, but it can definitely go in the opposite direction if something is going on in the area during these dates or this is a busy period. One also has to keep in mind retail prices and that some properties may have a realistic floor on price due to profit margins.
marcelo_cr Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Thanks Aaron, I thought that they put non sold rooms on Hotwire close to date of stay, trying to sell an unoccupied room for a lowest price.
AaronJB Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 In some cases they certainly do; it all depends. There is also plenty of trying to sell rooms in advance, as well - for example, some posters were able to get a 4* hotel in Times Square in early December last Summer for $130 or so. Now, posters who are trying to get a 4* for the same dates are finding themselves having to push well over $200.While Orlando is a different situation and pricing changes certainly won't be as dramatic, there could still be busy periods. A hotel that may be showing for $105 now may be $115-125 if demand increases closer to the dates. There's no way to know exact pricing swings (and I'm not sure if anything is going on on these dates), but overall, they won't likely be major. On the other hand, there's a pricing floor where I'm guessing a lot of these hotels will not go beneath due to profit margins.Otherwise, I do see a lot of other deals for these dates, as well. The new all-suite 4* Point resort in Orlando is $128.49 (50% off special) via Orbitz.com for these dates. Additionally, coupon code FABSAVE10 takes another 10% off per night. For $111, there's the Sheraton Vistana on Orbitz with a $50 resort credit (not per night, appears to be total) and other bonuses. There's a ton of properties in the Orlando area whose regular rates are less than $100 (at all star levels) for these dates, so I tend to wonder about taking a 3* for $105. The FABSAVE10 coupon code can be used for most - although not all - properties on Orbitz. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz.com links to start your purchase.
