elain_e Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Looking for 5* in Frankfurt for 1 night 11/19/2000-11/20Apologies in advance for my newbie comments. First time checking out Hotwire and Priceline for hotel rooms. What a great resource in the betterbidding forums!! Hotwire shows 5* for $109 (plus tax and fees) - shows icons for pool, restaurant, business center and hi-speed internet - possibly Westin Grand?Browsing PL forum shows recent winning bid of $65 for 5* Frankfurt (West) Marriott. Booking on Marriott.Com AAA Rate is 127 Euro (about US$188) Used the link on top right hand corner to start my first PL bid.Started with $80 in Frankfurt East - rejected (wanted to try for the Westin Grand)Added Frankfurt West, bid $60 - rejectedAdded South/Airport area (no 5* - free bid), bid $65 accepted.Just out of curiousity...would there have been a better strategy for trying to get 5* East? PL Forum shows most recent winning bid for Frankfurt East was $119 for Westin Grand.
AaronJB Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Congratulations on your success and welcome to the site. :)Glad that you have found the site helpful.Marvelous deal for this Frankfurt property. I don't think you could have done better, and keep in mind that there are different rates on different dates - what one person may have gotten for a set of dates does not indicate what one may have to pay for a different set of dates.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
Rhine-and-Roses Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Don't bid in a zone if it's not a "free" zone if you want to concentrate on a certain hotel, however you could possibly have got the Hilton even if you only bid in the east zone. That Marriott is very nice and you got an INCREDIBLE price. I stay there when I go to Frankfurt on business and I have never been disappointed. The hotel is every bit as comfortable as the Westin. However, if you are a tourist on foot, I think the Westin or Hilton would be better. (Advice in case you go back.) Getting around on buses and S-Bahn is easy. Safe city, despite the way the area around the main train station looks.Go check out the antique cars in the lobby and mezzanine of the Westin- really fabulous.
elain_e Posted November 15, 2009 Author Report Posted November 15, 2009 Thanks for the tips Rhine and Roses! We found easy public transport directions using S8/S9 to Hauptbahnhof then changing to tram #16 for 4 stops to Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage. The tram stop is supposed to be outside Marriott. We're spending a total of 28 hrs in FRA so will be "hoofing" it to the tourist stuff making use of a 2-day group Frankfurt card we will be buying in FRA arrival hall B (just in case anyone else needs to know). I thought the $65 price was too good to pass up. Your comment confirms that the Westin (or Hilton) doesn't justify almost double the price of Marriott on PL. As you said...also good to keep in mind the next time I go thru FRA!
