mkb77 Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 Here are the additional details: I'll stay there for 1 night on November 5th, for $34! :)
Rhine-and-Roses Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Wow- this price is pretty hard to believe. What were the taxes and "fees"? I saw a couple of good deals that had $47 per night extra charges, compared to $14 per night for the more "normal" price Hotwire hotels.
mkb77 Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 The taxes and fees were regular: $13.93. It's indeed an incredible deal for a 4* Paris hotel room! I can't wait to see the hotel.
clu75 Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 That is THE best price I've seen for Paris hotel. How did you find this hotel for your stay? Any hidden cost?
mkb77 Posted November 8, 2009 Author Report Posted November 8, 2009 Unfortunately, this price was "a mistake"! I have been told that only on arriving at the reception, they told me they had made a mistake on the website, it should have been $340 instead of $34! I was not happy at all, since I was looking for a *cheap hotel room*, not a *cheap 4* room", plus it was already late in the evening (with rain pouring, to top it all off), and I had no backup solution. I saw a manager and they finally agreed to honour the deal as it had been agreed on Hotwire (wich, in my understanding of consumer's rights, they had to, anyway). When leaving in the morning, I had a less civil talk with the new receptionist, who asked money from me for the room (there were no managers yet at this time of day, and apparently the one I had seen the day before hadn't let instructions). Since they have my credit card details, and the receptionist kind of implied that they could use it, I'll keep an eye on the balance of my account, and react fiercely (and legally) if I see any amount charged from this hotel. I'm disappointed that I haven't been given a phone call earlier and had to deal with an unpleasant situation (I think I would have accepted to cancel the deal if I had known earlier, but being told that just when arriving at the reception in the evening was not acceptable). Really I didn't mean to put anybody at this hotel in a bad position by asking them to honour the Hotwire deal, but there's no reason that I should pay for someone else's mistake: my company refunds me only $90 / night for a hotel room, so I would have had to pay a lot from my own purse for attending a business meeting for the company, just because I had trusted Hotwire!
clu75 Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 I feel ya. I hope the hotel is smart enough not to charge you the difference for the sake of reputation. It is unacceptable that they didn't let you know about their mistake in advance.
rossm Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Do you - or anyone else - have suggestions on the best sites to book a hotel in Paris? Those with Priceline and Hotwire don't appear that good, well positioned nor particularly cheap. And many aren't listed on the board....I thought of trying easyclicktravel.com......but would appreciate hearing what more experienced folk say.Would like a pleasant/decent hotel (not too primitive) in the Les Halles, Marais to Bastille area - Jan 24 to 28.Thank you for any suggestions you can make.Ross
